A Day in the Life of a Pharmaceutical Purchasing Analyst - Hospital

The Pharmaceutical Purchasing Analyst plays a critical role in managing the inventory, purchasing, and cost-analysis activities of the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Inpatient Pharmacy. This position involves overseeing the acquisition, storage, and distribution of pharmaceutical supplies, utilizing advanced hospital software and systems, including the 340B program. Challenges include maintaining accurate inventory levels, ensuring compliance with contracts, and effectively managing pharmaceutical spending and reimbursement processes. The role requires collaboration with pharmacists, financial analysts, and external vendors to optimize purchasing strategies and improve operational efficiencies. Additionally, the analyst is responsible for generating detailed reports and managing database entries that support financial and operational decision-making.

Our team collaborates with physicians, nurses, and care teams to provide expert medication management, compounding, and clinical support that enhances patient safety and treatment outcomes. Whether preparing IV medications, adjusting dosages for renal function, or managing high-risk drug therapies, we play a critical role in the hospital ensuring that medications are both safe and effective. With our outpatient Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services, we take a proactive approach to patient health by optimizing medication regimens, counseling patients on adherence, and managing chronic conditions through personalized interventions. By leveraging advanced pharmacy technology and evidence-based protocols, we improve patient outcomes while minimizing medication-related risks. Qualifications

Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree -OR- five years of work experience as a Pharmacy Technician with experience in the areas of dispensing controlled substances, inventory control, and record keeping
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy and National Certification status of PTCB or within one year of hire
Preferred
  • Business, finance, or health science bachelor's degree

 

Compensation and Benefits

The pay range listed above is the estimated starting pay range for this role. Actual pay rate offered depends on many factors including each individual employee's experience level, preferred education/certifications, along with market conditions.
