Position Requirements:

  • Board Certified.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine/osteopathic medicine.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of established evolving biomedical, clinical, and social sciences and the application of that knowledge to patient care and the education of others.
  • Provides guidance to interns, resident/fellows, medical students, physician assistants and nurse practitioners and are eligible for clinical appointment at Wake Forest University.
  • Delivers patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life. Comfortable providing training and/or direction to support staff assigned to the unit during the performance of duties.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Proven understanding of the contexts and systems in which healthcare is provided, and an ability to apply this knowledge to improve optimizing health.
  • Maintains clinical privileges in the areas of his/her expertise and in all areas required to carry out the duties of his/her assignments/responsibilities within Medicine Services.

The Salisbury VA Health Care System (SVAHCS) is one of the leading health care systems serving Veterans in the Mid-Atlantic Region providing health care services at 4 locations in the Central Piedmont region of North Carolina: our W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury and 3 health care center or community-based outpatient clinics in Kernersville, North Charlotte, and South Charlotte. SVAHCS serves Veterans living in a 21-county area of the Central Piedmont Region of North Carolina including the Charlotte metro area, which is the largest media market in North Carolina.

Compensation & Benefit Package:

  • Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): May be Authorized.
  • Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
    Paid Time Off: 50–55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME).
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
  • Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
  • Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
  • CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification).
  • Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
  • Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm.
