Description
The Senior Safety Manager provides the tools and skills necessary to implement the Fleet Safety processes for all Private Fleet employees. Aligning with Fleet Directors and Human Resources in compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA regulations and Dollar General policies. Leads Safety Managers on achieving department goals.
Job Responsibility
• Supports the Fleet Network's terminal and operational leadership in their efforts to develop and achieve safety objectives around FMCSA requirements for equipment and Drivers. (20%)
• Partners with Fleet Training, Safety, and Operations Management to develop & implement standard operating procedures, safety regulations and other related written guidelines. (20%)
• Champions adherence of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and identifies process improvements around areas of safety, training, and compliance. (20%)
• Promotes a culture of safety by evaluating the safety performance of all employees and ensuring proper safety measures are in place, addressing any concerns in a timely manner. (10%)
• Benchmarks with industry peers and explores emerging technology to support continuous process improvement and establish best practices in creating a safe and healthy work environment. (10%)
• Redesigns and monitors the supervisory development process by improving the selection of mentors and developing standards and monitoring the progress of candidates. (10%)
• Trains Managers in employee evaluation and leadership development of their direct reports. (10%)
Working Conditions

Job Qualifications
• Ability to evaluate potential safety hazards and collaborate with others to minimize or eliminate risk.
• Working knowledge of federal, state and Company regulations and policies related to compliance and safety.
• Understanding performance development, team development, and leadership development.
• Demonstrated developmental approach to leadership.
• Ability to evaluate supervisory and management employees for leadership potential.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to use l computers for tracking and updating safety and training programs.
Education/Experience
• Bachelor's degree in business or logistics preferred with a minimum of 6 years relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 6+ years of Transportation Industry Safety experience required.
• Experience in managing and leading others required.
