Install, administer, and maintain operating systems software and related software products. Participate in the planning and coordination of delivered services. Execute activities related to systems access, security, availability and capacity across multiple platforms. Proactively administer Unix and Linux servers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Administer user access to systems, or develop access strategies.
Support development and production system environments.
Install and maintain third-party application software, maintaining continuity with licensing and maintenance agreements.
Monitor and tune system for performance.
Administer system security, data backups and recoveries.
Coordinate all capacity planning activities.
Plan, test and update system disaster recovery process.
Expertise with system administration, implementation, monitoring, and recovery techniques for AIX and a major Linux distribution such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Oracle Enterprise Linux (RHEL or OEL).
Strong system programming and shell-scripting skills.
Understanding of database management concepts including Oracle, as these concepts relate to UNIX server and server storage provisioning.
Experience with enterprise backup and recovery software such as EMC Networker, Tivoli Storage Manager, or Veritas NetBackup.
Disaster Recovery planning and testing experience including bare-metal or hotsite restore.
Experience working with Storage Array Network (SAN) technology, particularly as such technologies relate to UNIX server storage presentation.
Solid organizational and prioritizing skills. Capable of working with limited supervision.
Ability to partner with technical and non-technical users.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical documentation.
Able to be a team player and is customer service driven.
Work Experience &/or Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology, or equivalent and strong knowledge of Unix and Linux system internals, operating systems and security concepts with a minimum of five years' experience. Degree not required with extensive experience. Operating system administration training classes pertaining to UNIX and Linux operating systems is desired certifications are preferred. Large-scale server and data center experience (experience with businesses similar in size and scope to Dollar General, or larger).
