The Physician Assistant functions in a medical support role to the physician in the provision of medical care, and works under the direction, supervision and responsibility of a physician. Appointment of Physician's Assistants and the duties and responsibility approved for each appointee are governed by the pertinent sections of the Public Health Law; the Education Law; the Official Compilation of Codes, Rules, Regulations of State of New Jersey; Hospital and Medical Staff Bylaws; and policies, rules, regulations of the Department of Surgery.

- Must possess skillful hands, be able to concentrate for long periods of time, work well under stress and be able to think and react quickly in emergencies.
- Work requires analytic skills and knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, EKG.
- Passed national certifying exam administered by the National Admission on Certification of PA's.
- BLS & ACLS
- CME 20 category 1 credits/year total of 50 CME's from all categories.
- Graduate of an approved PA program with a bachelor's degree.
- Current NJ license as PA.
