Job Summary: Performs the duties of a Lab Assistant and assumes responsibility for one or more sub-sections of the Lab Office. Covers department in the absence of Supervisor. Trains new hires as needed.

Status: Full-Time
Shift: Evenings
Hours: M-F/2pm -10pm (Rotating Weekends)

 

Job Essentials:

  •        Trains Lab Assistants in all areas of the Lab Office as needed. Acts as mentor/role model to other Lab Assistants and first level of support for them.
  • Assumes a level of responsibility/oversight in the Lab Office for one or more areas and covers in the absence of the Lab Office Supervisor.
  • Performs all duties and performance standards outlined in Lab Assistant job description.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Assists Lab Office Supervisor in maintaining procedures and QA projects.
  • Maintains a high level of quality and safety.
  • Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
  • Meets regulatory and annual health assessment requirements.
  • Displays a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community.
  • Maintains high standards of service excellence in all interactions with patients, physicians, other departments and co-workers.
  • Performs other duties as required by department.

 

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.  Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree preferred.   
  • Three or more years' experience as a Lab Assistant.
  • Advanced knowledge of the processing of specimens for Reference Laboratory testing.
  • Advanced skills for the processing of specimens for specialty testing.
  • Previous exposure to Laboratory and Laboratory terminology.
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills.
  • Familiarity with computer terminals, keyboards, printers, and PCs.
