The Barge Readiness Technician reports to the Supervisor of Marine Maintenance for Enterprise Marine Services LLC (“EMS”) and is primarily responsible for conducting barge preventative maintenance inspections and repairs, engaging in and pursuing regulatory compliance initiatives, and ensuring optimal conditions for barge cargo transfers from a maintenance and engineering perspective. The Barge Readiness Technician will perform topside inspections, maintenance and repairs on barges in fleets, and shipyards as directed along with assisting mechanics, electricians and other MMR personnel with maintaining EMS vessels as needed.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:• Conducting thorough pre-transfer and post-transfer barge maintenance inspections at EMS facilities and other assigned shipyards and fleets, including but not limited to by ensuring that all documentation is current, legible, and complete and that void spaces, hatches, and other barge components are in good working order.
• Inspecting and reporting on barge cleanliness and ensuring that proper procedures are followed.
• Ensuring that all barge equipment, pumps, engines, and winches are functioning properly and are in good working order, ensure that barge engines are up to date with current oil changes, perform heater tune ups as required, grease all equipment as needed and that all other preventive or corrective topside maintenance has been timely performed and completed.
• Assisting with barge operations as needed and/or directed, including but not limited to by starting and monitoring barge engines as well as thermal fluid heaters to ensure operational readiness and keeping decks clear of spills to maintain safety standards.
• Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and company rules and regulations prior to, during, and following cargo transfers.
• Facilitating required labeling and stenciling for barge pipelines and hoses when needed.
• Supporting the maintenance and scheduling of facility equipment as needed or directed.
• Collaborating with other internal departments as needed and fostering an effective and respectful working environment.
• Traveling within the Gulf Coast region as needed or directed.
• Any other duties directed by the Marine Maintenance and Repair Department.
Requirements
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
• A valid driver's license with a good driving record is required.
• A valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (T.W.I.C.) is required
• Proficient computer skills are required.
• An in-depth familiarity with codes and standards applicable to liquid barge design, construction, and operation is preferred.
• An ability and willingness to work indoors or outdoors in various weather conditions is required.
• The ability to ride on and access via stairs or other means inland vessels and barges is required.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
• Must be a self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• An in-depth knowledge of safe work practices and procedures is required.
• The ability to operate, service, troubleshoot and repair barge level alarm systems, pump engines, generators, thermal fluid heaters and other topside barge equipment.
• Conscientious, dependable, and committed to the role, team, and company.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changes, prioritize tasks, handle competing demands under pressure, and complete assignments in a timely manner.
• Must be proactive and efficient in addressing issues, completing tasks, and working as a team.

• Must satisfactorily pass a background check, physical and drug screen.
