At Flex, we deliver innovative medical and consumer products that improve lives around the world. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Injection Molding Tooling Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Manchester, CT.

In this role, you will lead complex tooling programs from concept through production launch, working closely with customers, suppliers, mold makers, and manufacturing teams to ensure high-quality, cost-effective injection molding solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys managing technically challenging projects, influencing product manufacturability, and driving continuous improvement within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do

  • Lead injection mold tooling projects from design through qualification, validation, and production release.
  • Manage new mold builds, tool refurbishments, engineering changes, repairs, and spare tooling programs.
  • Partner with customers, mold suppliers, and internal cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Review part designs for manufacturability and provide DFM recommendations to optimize quality, cycle time, and tool performance.
  • Support PFMEA/FMEA activities and risk mitigation efforts for new and existing products.
  • Coordinate mold design reviews, tool trials, process optimization, qualification activities, and final customer approvals.
  • Troubleshoot tooling and molding issues to improve performance, reliability, and product quality.
  • Develop tooling quotations, project schedules, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Monitor project timelines and provide regular status updates to management and customers.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on tool life, process capability, productivity, and cost reduction.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline  – or - equivalent industry experience.
  • 6+ years of experience managing injection mold tooling projects in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience within a highly regulated manufacturing industry such as medical devices, healthcare, automotive, aerospace, or electronics manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of plastic injection mold design, mold construction, and injection molding processes.
  • Experience qualifying complex, tight-tolerance, multi-cavity, or high-cavitation injection molds.
  • Working knowledge of DFM, FMEA, process validation, and tooling qualification methodologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while working with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical device manufacturing experience.
  • Experience supporting IQ/OQ/PQ validation activities.
  • Familiarity with scientific molding principles and process development.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and regulatory requirements within highly regulated manufacturing environments.
