Position Overview
The Director of Software Engineering is responsible for leading, managing, mentoring, and building extremely talented software engineering teams to deliver business applications that help Galen College of Nursing transform the business units and enable them to grow with efficiency and scale. This position manages software support, incident management, and problem management for the IT organization. This position is responsible for vendor relations with numerous global vendors, ensuring our needs are on their roadmaps and being delivered for our customers. This position works with the Enterprise Architect and the IT Security team to ensure operational support, vulnerability management, and roles and responsibilities are continuously reviewed and enhanced.
Position Responsibilities:
- Guide the work of a team of software engineers, SaaS application administrators, and database admins to build and maintain our Student Information System (SIS) platform and other business critical applications.
- You will direct expert software end to end engineering tasks including designing, developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing, based on system specifications for impactful and high-visibility initiatives.
- Lead a team of Software Engineers across several agile teams as they design, develop, and support the business partners with a mission to drive long-term value.
- Provide technical thought leadership, foster a team environment, and provide mentorship and coaching feedback to technical resources while assisting development teams
- Manage the recruitment and hiring of staff and contractors. Manages goals and performance levels for direct reports and coach and develop team members, providing learning and career growth opportunities.
- Ability to influence priorities by identifying solutions that are aligned with current business objectives and closely follow industry trends.
- Define and, when needed, refine a vision, roadmap, and process framework to build, manage, monitor, and operate a complex multi-tenant cloud environment to support SaaS solution.
- Seek opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve the business and provide more efficient processes.
- Represent IT in discussions with the business before projects or initiatives are committed.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Own certain initiatives where applicable and see them to completion by coordinating communication and efforts. Complete plans and follow-up on open topics timely.
- Use data to provide insight on issues or root cause or validate theories and assumptions.
- Perform all duties with quality and a caring attitude towards internal and external customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Position Requirements:
- 5+ years of Software Development experience
- 3+ years of supervisory experience.
- 3+ years of project management experience
- Demonstrated leadership ability aligning IT solutions to support business needs and strategy.
- Strong project management background leading cross-functional teams and developing and executing plans on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Detailed understanding of application design practices, application support, technology standards, and vulnerability management.
- Experience in incident, change, and problem management.
- Ability to explain complex technical detail and tradeoffs to non-technical associates.
- Demonstrated ability to guide team members in troubleshooting, issue resolution, and escalation.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure wile meeting strict deadlines.
Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred. Extensive experience and qualifications may be substituted for education, on a case-by-case basis.
Certifications: Highly desirable, in any computer related area or concentration
Special Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of technical experience and/or certifications
- Minimum 3 years prior departmental/team leadership experience.
- Minimum 2 years Project Management experience.
- Ability to communicate orally and written in a professional manner.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work well both alone and in a distributed team setting, including vendors, resellers, and partners.
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
Degree of Supervision: Minimal.
