The Integrated Media Department at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applications for a 100% FTE, fixed-term renewable position beginning fall 2024 semester. Our department seeks individuals with professional experience in broadcasting and radio general management.  The radio station general manager is responsible for the overall operation of the station (KAGU-FM is the classical music station of the Inland Northwest), including programming, finance, budgeting, compliance with laws and regulations, technical operations, facilities management, and long-term planning. They also manage fund raising and ensure that the station complies with FCC regulations. Teaching experience in the field of media studies or media related fields with the ability to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the department's majors (Broadcasting and Electronic Media, Journalism, or Public Relations) and/or Integrated Media is preferred. Essential Functions

  • FCC duties:  License renewal; quarterly filing of the station public affairs issue report; maintain Public File ownership report and data base; Emergency Activation System testing and documentation.
  • Contract agreements: MET Opera; KHQ for tower and transmitter; third-party transmission engineer; music licensing for ASCAP, BMI, SEASAC, etc.
  • Manage KAGU programming: oversee and approve all programming, station identifiers, music, seasonal programming, announcements, and coordinate live performances.
  • Creation and editing of station breaks and other preproduced materials
  • Supervise students in developing promotional materials and other KAGU-related duties, including the MET Opera.
  • Teaching load equivalent to 24 credits of teaching. The responsibilities of KAGU oversight will be integrated into this as course reassignment, to be determined by the dean.  
  • Attend regular departmental and campus-wide meetings. 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in media studies, communication, broadcasting, strategic communications, or a related field
  • Experience in radio broadcasting with literacy in audio production/editing, programming and maintaining license agreements. 
  • The ability to teach courses in one or more of: Journalism, Broadcasting, Public Relations, and Integrated Media


Desired Qualifications

  • MA, MS, MFA, or PhD in media studies, communication, broadcasting, strategic communications, or a related field
  • Experience in podcast creation
  • Course development/teaching experience teaching in disciplines within Integrated Media


Hiring Salary

Lecturer-IR: $59,445 - $63,408; Lecturer-AT - $68,461 - $73,025; commensurate with education and experience
