Patient Care Technician (PCT) - PRN
Cohort Start Date: February 24th or March 9th

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the PCT assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the PCT's skills/training and the needs of the Department, and consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment. The PCT complies with all hospital policies/procedures and observes the State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel.
The StarTech Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program is an integral part of the HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence. This program provides comprehensive blended experience that offers an opportunity to be trained as a PCT caring for patients in our HCA Healthcare hospitals.
The StarTech PCT Training is 3 weeks:
One week PCT training program to include:
- Three weeks: off-site classroom training (40 hours/week; M-F)
- BLS for Healthcare Professionals
- Computer Documentation training
- Crisis Prevention Interventions (CPI) and Trauma Informed Care (TIC) training
- Geriatric Compassionate Care, Patient Experience
- HCA Healthcare focused skills and equipment training
- Two weeks: General Orientation and Preceptorship
- Market Orientation (8 hours)
- Facility Orientation (4-8 hours)
- 64 hours of clinical preceptorship in department
- Five 12 hour shifts
Attendance is imperative and all days are required to remain in the program. No days can be missed.

HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake is a full-service hospital offering a 531 bed inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and specialty services. The campus includes Level II trauma capabilities, a Neuroscience Institute, The Heart & Vascular Hospital, a bariatrics program, the Breast Diagnostic Center, a wound care center, a level III Neonatal ICU, and the area's only pediatric emergency department and pediatric ICU.
HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake is affiliated with HCA Houston Healthcare, part of the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division. The division is a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, emergency centers and diagnostic imaging facilities in greater Houston, Corpus Christi and South Texas. Facilities include: 17 hospitals, nine ambulatory care centers, 13 off-campus emergency centers, and a regional transfer center.
