Overall Summary

The primary function of this position is directing and overseeing production employees in a manufacturing environment. This position assigns work, recommends improvements in production methods and operating procedures and ensures quality and safety practices are met.

Primary and Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with production planners and supervision to insure timely completion of production orders
  • Enforces Company policies, procedures, and safety rules
  • Conducts safety inspections of area of responsibility 
  • Assigns specific tasks to employees 
  • Recommends improvements to production methods, equipment layout, and product flow
  • Monitors productivity and measures against standards 
  • Takes action as needed in order to resolve issues so that production goals are met 
  • Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials needed in the department 
  • Responsible for 5S lean manufacturing
  • Monitors and provides feedback to supervision in relation to employees' safety habits, direct labor productivity, efficiencies and adherence to shop rules
  • Accurately reports shop floor production data via computer terminal and/or written reporting 
  • Follows visual and written work instructions in order to complete assigned tasks within set time allotted
  • Performs cycle counting of parts and material handling duties as prescribed by Supervisor
  • Able to check parts to engineering drawings using precision measuring equipment
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • May participate in lean/six sigma/quality/safety initiatives as required

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May be responsible to manage one or more colleagues including training, coaching and providing performance feedback

Years Experience

  • 1 – 3 years of industry experience   

Level of Education

  •   High School diploma, or GED

  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English
  • Ability to work from verbal and written instructions
  • Operation of small power tools, other hand tools, computerized and high-pressure equipment
  • Ability to operate fork lift
  • Goal oriented and team focused to ensure completion of projects in a timely manner

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

  • Work is accomplished in a moderately clean plant environment.
  • The production floor does not have a cooling system.
  • The sound level in the work environment may fluctuate due to noises associated with manufacturing process
  • Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil and/or fumes

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Performs all work in accordance with safety and workmanship and good housekeeping specifications
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs., occasional lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, work overhead with arms, and sit or stand for several hours at a time
  • Eye/hand coordination required, with steady and agile hands to operate equipment and tools
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as required per plant rules
