Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions to many of the world's leading brands and companies, is seeking a Project Engineer to join ourteam in Coquitlam, BC. and help grow Intertek's Electrical business in North America. 

Intertek's Electrical team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification for a variety of electric products, including energy transmission and distribution, industrial, appliances, consumer electronics, lighting, medical devices, information communications technology, and HVACR. What are we looking for?

The Project Engineer position will perform testing, inspection, and certification of projects in North America. This position is responsible for independently performing testing and evaluation on a variety of products to the provisions of U.S., Canadian and other international product safety standards; writing reports; and communicating with clients. Applicants must reside in and be able to legally work in Canada.

Salary & Benefits Information

The salary range for this position is $90K - $110K. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test).
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
  • Develop, set-up and follow established test plans, including performing all required testing of product in accordance with the identified standards and established test plan. 
  • Conduct thorough Preliminary Design Review's (PDR), construction review, compile and document results. 
  • Perform certification, testing work on equipment may include but not limited to
    • Mechanical Equipment, including HVAC equipment
    • Transmission & Distribution Equipment
    • Grid-connected industrial skids
    • Renewable energy interconnection equipment
    • Alternative Fuel equipment
  • Independently conduct on and off-site testing and evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standard(s).
  • Provide on-going support and guidance on technical issues, test procedures, and standards interpretations. 

     

  • Provide ongoing sales support, including attending client meetings, project scoping and quoting. 
  • Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing. 

     

  • Perform other work as required.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science, Technology, or similar degree with focus on Mechanical or Electrical
  • Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) 
  • 10+ years of testing experience
  • Prior project management experience 

     

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions 
  • Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgements independently where limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities and demanding deadlines 
  • Must be detailed-oriented and able to effectively prioritize and organize workload, with efficient time management 
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal written and presentation formats 
  • Must possess the fundamental technical and administrative skills required to perform the job duties.
  • Customer focused and quality driven.
  • Travel up to 25% as business dictates.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required.
  • Applicants must reside in and be able to legally work in Canada.

 

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Experience with U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards (i.e.: ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC)Prior direct experience in power & distribution
  • Experience with component testing

     

  • Prior experience with utilities, EPCs, OEMs, or testing laboratories

     

  • Experience and qualifications with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 17025, etc.).
  • Previous management experience would be an asset.
