Job Summary:
The Eye Monitoring Center Technician is a member of the health care team who, working under the direction of the Department Administrator and/or designee assumes responsibility and accountability for resulting photographic diagnostic testing under the direct supervision of the Retina Physician In Charge. THIS POSITION IS INTENDED FOR USE IN THE EYE MONITORING CENTER LOCATED IN BALDWIN PARK ONLY.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Identify retinal hemorrhages, Exudates, Vitreous Hemorrhage, Neovascularization, Non proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy to result: Diabetic Retina Screening photos and Moderate Diabetic Retinopathy Screening photos.

  • Identify various pathologies (e.g. Optic Nerve Cup Disc, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Old Laser Treatment, Macular Edema, Retinal Detachment, Emboli, Nevus, Drusen, Myelinated Nerve Fibers, Artery and Vein Occlusion to result: Age-Related Macular Degeneration Screening photos and Glaucoma Suspect Screening photos.

  • Perform order entry for ophthalmic diagnostic testing.

  • Speak with retina physician(s) concerning results and alert retina physicians following established medical center criteria.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience

  • Minimum 1 year work experience as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) performing various diagnostic testing (e.g. stereo photos, disc photos, fundus photos, Ocular Coherent Tomography (Macular and Optic Nerve)

  • Minimum 6 months working knowledge of Fundus Photography (e.g. Macula, Optic Nerve, Artery and Vein).

  • Minimum 6 months working knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, pathology and terminology.

  • Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.


Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.


License, Certification, Registration

  • Ophthalmic Assistant Certificate from The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personel in Opthomology
