Position Highlight
We are currently seeking qualified candidates for full-time Security Officer II position for assignment at our Wailuku site. Candidates should be available for day shifts any day of the week, schedule to be determined. After-hours response sometimes may be necessary.
This is an Enterprise Security Officer position, meaning assignments may vary across different locations on Maui based on organizational needs.

Job Summary
Provides security services for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and facilities for Kamehameha Schools (KS). These services include, but are not limited to: continuous monitoring of CCTV cameras; vehicle and foot patrols across all campus property; enforcing traffic and parking regulations; conducting safety and security inspections; investigating and documenting traffic, criminal, and non-criminal incidents; overseeing parking and crowd control; ensuring restricted access to sacred sites; monitoring vendors and general public access; restricting entry of unauthorized persons or vehicles; directing visitors and delivery vehicles; and maintaining records of vehicles entering or leaving campus.
Essential Responsibilities
Physical Security and Patrols
Maintains a safe and secure environment by adhering strictly to security protocols and procedures.
Maintains the safety of facilities, property, and individuals on campus through regular vehicle and foot patrols, remaining alert to unusual conditions or unauthorized personnel.
Monitors CCTV cameras, consistently ensuring a vigilant stance toward potential risks or incidents.
Identifies potential safety and/or criminal problems and safety hazards and promptly reports and monitors to minimize risk.
Oversees traffic flow, parking regulations, and crowd control at both regular school events and special functions on and off-campus, ensuring safety and order.
Provides security support on student and faculty excursions, including day trips and overnight stays, some of which may involve off-island travel.
First Response
Responds promptly to emergencies, such as workplace violence, intrusions, violence, natural disasters, fires, assaults, or other crisis situations.
When necessary, pursues, apprehends, and detains individuals within jurisdictional limits, using de-escalation techniques and defensive training to manage situations.
Provides emergency medical response for on-campus injuries, ensuring swift care aligned with Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) training.
Compliance and Safety
Makes sound decisions in potentially high-stakes situations, understanding that errors in judgment or lapses in duty could result in significant legal implications for KS.
Exercises precision and consistency to minimize risks and maintain a legally compliant and safe environment.
Access Control and Records Management
Enforces entry restrictions for unauthorized persons or vehicles, manages visitor and delivery access, and keeps detailed records of campus entries and exits.
Conducts safety inspections to ensure compliance with KS security standards.
Investigation and Reporting
Investigates and documents traffic, on-campus criminal, and non-criminal incidents, providing thorough written reports to assist in further actions and ensure transparency in all security activities
Training and Operational Support
Supports the development of new Security Officers by assisting with their training, sharing knowledge of campus procedures, and guiding them through best practices.
Assists the Security Sergeant with daily operations and special assignments, ensuring smooth coordination and execution of security tasks.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years of related work experience.
Completion of 8-hour Basic Guard training and application for State of Hawaii, DCCA, Guard Employee Registration.
Valid Hawaii Driver's License and current driving abstract.
Current standard First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
Current Emergency Medical Response (EMR) certification.
Possess skills in specialized areas (EMR Instructor, Drone Pilot Certification, CCTV, and inventory tracking and maintenance)
Ability to work independently and flexibility to accommodate a rotational schedule, including 24/7 availability.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills, allowing effective interaction with KS staff, students, parents, and the public.
Proficient in computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and email, and able to learn, operate, and monitor CCTV systems for recording and review purposes.
Competence in typing and computer use for detailed incident reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate of Arts degree in a security, law enforcement, emergency management, or closely related field.
Minimum 1 year of previous work experience in security, police-related or emergency-related work environment.
Security experience in a K-12 school environment.
Good working knowledge of microcomputers.
Specialized training in Crisis Intervention, drone operation, defensive tactics, or similar programs.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Occasionally sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
Frequently stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.
Occasionally twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions (including environmental conditions)
This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
Work is typically conducted 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
