Location: Waimea  
Pay Rate: $30/hr (temp to hire)


Job Description:

Introduction:
This position is situated within the Finance department of the Kauai Region of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), serving as the backbone for Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), Kauai Region Clinics, and affiliates. The Finance department is committed to upholding integrity in financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and optimizing resources to uphold the organization's mission, vision, and values.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. General Accounting (70%):
- Review and support Accountant II tasks.
- Reconcile patient trust accounts monthly.
- Manage cash activities and bank reconciliations.
- Oversee interface postings to the general ledger.
- Handle accruals, prepaid accounts, and recurring charges.
- Update fixed assets and maintain subsidiary ledgers.
- Submit monthly statistics to corporate offices.
- Record journal entries and ensure accuracy.
- Maintain real property rental schedules.
- Assist in payroll transactions and accruals.
- Manage petty cash accounts.
- Coordinate payroll activities for 501c3 entities.
- Code invoices and assist in budgetary data preparation.
- Facilitate bank transfers and sales tax returns.
- Assist in year-end activities and federal form preparation.
- File annual business documents for entities in Hawaii.

2. Other Accounting and Office Duties (30%):
- Support CIP projects management.
- Cover Account Clerks functions when needed.
- Compile patient accounting reports.
- Provide coverage for finance positions as required.
- Aid in drafting finance department policies and procedures.
- Perform other assigned duties.

Education, Experience, Certification, Licensure:
- Education: Bachelor's degree or experience in accounting 
- Experience: 1.5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Certification: None required.

Nature of Supervision:
- Supervised by Accountant V 
- Mentorship provided by Accountant II.
- Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm schedule.
