Pay Rate: $21- $22

Kelly Services is proud to collaborate with a prestigious higher education institution to recruit for a Department Assistant to work in the Biochemistry department in the School of Medicine.
 

  • The Department Assistant works with a high degree of independence to provide overall administrative expertise for a variety of department related functions.
  • Organizing and preparing for financial review, grant administration and budget, human resources, faculty and staff recruitment.
  • Function as a technical resource and advisor using discretion and independent judgment.

Essential Functions
  • Manage administrative duties within the office of the Chair/Deputy Director
  • Arrange meetings, take minutes and maintain necessary correspondence with attendees.
  • Responsible for assuring response to both official and casual communication with the Chair/Deputy Director and various constituents
  • Compare and evaluate possible courses of conduct and recommend to the Chair/Deputy Director the best course of action
  • Independently research, prioritize and follow up on multiple incoming issues and concern
  • Develop and create content for letters of support and recommendations for the individual submitting grants and those applying for promotion and tenure.
  • Prepare reports, briefing, presentations, letters and memoranda.
  • Manager human resources activities that require Chair/Deputy Director input.
  • Liaise with distinguished guests, community representatives, hospital administrators, faculty, alumni, and students for the promotion of and operations related to, the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Associate degree and 5 years of administrative work experience or high school education and 7 years of administrative work experience required.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the Chari/Deputy director
  • Ability to actively learn – understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making.
Excellent computer skills experience, excellent mathematical skills, ability to use spreadsheets, database packages, numerous online scientific database and interface
