Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Director of Veterinary Services and Attending Veterinarian to join our leadership team. This role is primarily focused on preclinical research and research veterinarian responsibilities, with additional duties as the Attending Veterinarian for IACUC oversight and swine herd health.
The Director of Veterinary Services will play a central role in guiding the company's veterinary program, ensuring exceptional animal care and welfare, directing preclinical research services, and providing expert scientific and technical support to clients. This position offers significant autonomy, leadership influence, and the opportunity to grow into an expanded executive leadership role as the company scales.
Key Responsibilities Veterinary Leadership & Animal Care- Lead and oversee the company's veterinary and animal care program across all facilities.
- Serve as Attending Veterinarian, providing oversight for animal welfare, veterinary care, and humane animal use.
- Oversee veterinary care and husbandry for a portfolio of gene-edited minipig disease models.
- Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs, policies, and processes related to veterinary care, animal use, and facility operations.
- Ensure all animal care practices meet or exceed USDA, OLAW, FDA, and AAALAC requirements and accreditation standards.
- Participate as a key member of the IACUC, reviewing and advising on animal use protocols.
- Serve as a scientific and technical expert for preclinical studies utilizing minipig disease models.
- Participate in client-facing discussions to communicate model capabilities, limitations, and experimental considerations.
- Assist project managers with study feasibility assessments, logistics, timelines, and cost estimates.
- Provide guidance on model selection, study design, endpoints, and interpretation of results.
- Propose internal studies or data collection efforts to further characterize disease models or address client questions.
- Prepare and deliver final written study reports and supporting documentation for clients.

??????Compliance & Program Management
- Ensure full regulatory compliance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations.
- Support audits, inspections, and accreditation activities.
- Provide strategic input into facility planning, model development, and research expansion initiatives.
- DVM or equivalent veterinary degree (required).
- Licensed or eligible for veterinary licensure in the U.S.
- 2–4+ years of experience, with preference for additional experience in preclinical research settings.
- Strong background as a research veterinarian with attending veterinarian/IACUC experience.
- Experience in CRO and/or academic research environments welcomed.
- Pig/minipig experience strongly preferred; candidates with mixed large-animal model backgrounds will be considered.
- Demonstrated hands-on technical proficiency; technical strength is prioritized over extensive people management experience.
- Prior leadership or management experience is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and comfort interacting directly with scientific and industry clients.
- Director-level role reporting directly to the CEO/CSO.
- One direct report (Project Manager).
- Iowa site includes approximately 18–20 employees.
- Competitive base salary: $150,000–$175,000, commensurate with experience.
