Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Manager for a direct-hire position at a premier client in Clackamas/Boring, OR. Salary: $100k+ depending on experience

Overview

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the implementation of risk reduction, injury prevention, security protocols, and safety and environmental compliance initiatives. This position is responsible for the planned execution of regulatory compliance efforts and emphasizes and promotes a safety culture in an environment that's continuously improving. Position duties are in the following functional areas; safety and environmental regulatory compliance, safety training and education, safety inspections, incident analysis, environmental reporting to include (storm water, process water, monitoring wells and DEQ reporting) emergency preparedness, worker's compensation / claims management, and management of the established Safety and Risk Management Process (SRMP).

Schedule: Monday-Friday 6am-3:30pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute environmental, health and safety plans specific to the workplace and in compliance with all relevant legal guidelines and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with current and evolving EHS regulations along with company requirements.
  • Promotes a culture of safe behaviors and mindset.
  • Coach and mentor department managers in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause and develop corrective action plans.
  • Create safety-related inspection programs (including specific biological, chemical, regulated waste collection sites, as well as our water quality programs).
  • Plan and conduct inspections to assess existing conditions and to determine compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Develop and oversee safety training programs including Bloodborne Pathogens, Chemical and Hazardous Waste, Lockout/Tagout, Personal Protective Equipment, Respiratory Protection Program, Fall Protection, Ladder Safety and Hearing Conversation.
  • Continuously evaluate training program content and effectiveness.
  • Develop reports with findings and corrective actions identified.
  • Educate staff regarding common findings and appropriate hazard mitigations.
  • Maintain documentation and track trends.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene surveys using monitoring equipment to quantify potential bio, chemical, radiation, radio frequency, and noise exposures.
  • Investigate complaints and reports of unsafe working conditions and provide recommended abatement actions.
  • Leads research and analysis used to develop and maintain sustainability strategies to ensure the business practices, products and services are environmentally friendly and compliant with government rules and regulations.
  • Develops and maintains practices to help ameliorate water consumption, energy usage and waste management.
  • Maintains relationships with and ensures compliance with outside sustainability organizations and customers contacts.
  • Collects, analyzes and reports on key sustainability metrics.  
  • Keep informed of any safety and environmental law or regulation changes and trends that impact the organization.
  • Advise on ergonomics in both office and production environments.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in building safety and environmental program/policies in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding & experience in OSHA, environmental and risk assessment.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety systems analysis.
  • Ability to detect and solve problems effectively.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies preferred.
  • Must be able to work across shifts when needed.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid/BBP Certification
  • Background in worker's compensation claims management preferred.
  • Training in and experience with Lean manufacturing principles is preferred but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint).
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written skills in English.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and is able to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and diffuse challenging situations using acceptable and appropriate methods.
  • This position will be required to work in an office setting as well as on the factory floor and outdoors in the elements.  This position may be exposed to potentially uncomfortable heat or cold, rain, snow, or sun.  
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. periodically.
  • Perform tasks (that may be repetitive) that require reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking, stooping and/or bending.
  • Work in an environment that generates OSHA permissible machine noise levels.
  • Use tools that require fine hand skills.
  • Visually, observe and differentiate small moving parts.
  • Ability to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required in designated areas.
