Title: Growth Merchant Lead – Emerging Markets
Location: Peru, IL (must reside within 40 minutes; regular territory travel required) 
Classification: W2 under Staffing Supplier 
Contract Duration: March 31, 2026 – July 4, 2026 
Compensation: $29 per hour base + uncapped commission (On Target Earnings [OTE] $1,750/month; commission structure explained during interview)

Position Overview 

A proactive outside sales team is seeking a Growth Merchant Lead to develop new business and grow partnerships with restaurants and food/beverage merchants in emerging and rural markets. This field-based position focuses on transactional, in-person sales cycles, territory growth, and relationship-building. Frequent regional travel is a requirement, and all travel expenses are covered. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Conduct regular travel within the assigned territory (primarily within 2 hours of Peru, IL, with some overnights/extended travel as needed) to prospect for, present to, and close new merchant partnerships. 

  • Present compelling value propositions to restaurant and small business owners, negotiate partnership agreements, and onboard new accounts efficiently. 

  • Effectively manage a high-velocity, transactional sales process, consistently closing new business. 

  • Work closely with a Regional Sales Manager, sharing insights and collaborating with the wider outside sales team. 

  • Utilize provided sales resources and tools to maximize performance and close rates. 

  • Maintain comprehensive records of travel and sales activities in compliance with travel and expense policies (employer-paid). 

 

Qualifications 

  • Minimum 2 years of successful sales experience in a closing role—experience selling to SMBs, restaurants, or food/beverage establishments strongly preferred. 

  • History of achieving or exceeding new business quotas in a fast-paced setting. 

  • Willing and able to travel at least 50% of the time, including overnights as required. 

  • Adept at both inside and outside sales strategies to consistently reach goals. 

  • Entrepreneurial approach; enthusiastic about building strategies and playbooks for repeatable success. 

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
