Kelly Services is actively recruiting for a Lab Technician for a Long Term Contract opportunity in Midland, MI.

A laboratory technician position is available within a Toxicology and Environmental Research Laboratory. The candidate must be enthusiastic with high initiative that takes pride in contributing to team success by accomplishing quality work in a safe and efficient manner. The main role of the candidate will be to maintain the laboratories in a clean and organized manner, including glassware cleaning, supply ordering and stocking, and instrument maintenance. The candidate will work with the team to perform basic laboratory functions and implement improvement opportunities related to quality, work processes, safety, and productivity.  The candidate will also provide analytical chemistry support of both toxicology and environmental studies ranging from biodegradation studies to trace analytical quantitation of compounds in biological and environmental matrices. Some work will be conducted following regulatory guidelines (Good Laboratory Practices), but all will ultimately be submitted to regulatory agencies for review in support of the safety assessments.  Appropriate training and supervision will be provided, as needed, for this position.

Responsibilities:
-           Work in a safe manner in accordance with facility and site EH&S policies
-           Participate in good housekeeping practices which includes laboratory cleaning and organization
-           Cleaning glassware with chemical cleaning
-           Making reagents for sample preparation
-           Basic quality checks of lab equipment, balances, and pipettes
-           Provide support for biodegradation studies
-           Ordering and stocking laboratory supplies
-           Logging in samples for analysis
-           Sample preparation for trace analysis including water and solid samples
-           Sample shipping
-           Miscellaneous paperwork including filing and archiving
-           Participate in technical training to attain on-the-job proficiency
-           Ensure data collection, interpretation, and documentation are done with high quality and in accordance with GLP requirements


Required Qualifications:
-           A desire to continually learn and be an active member of the laboratory team
-           A strong commitment to safety
-           Strong technical and interpersonal skills
-           Organizational skills are necessary to juggle the many priorities that will exist and required to meet all deadlines for their assigned work
-           Good written and verbal communication skills
-           The willingness to work with biological matrices and radioactivity
-           Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly
-           The candidate may be required to lift up to 50 lbs

A minimum requirement for this U. S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U. S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

-           Analytical lab experience is desirable. Any previous experience in handling glassware, solvents, analytical balances, and other fundamental lab tasks is an asset.

Education:
-           This position requires a minimum of an AS in a science related field.
-           Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry or biochemistry is highly preferred.
