Kelly Science has an immediate opening for a Laboratory Technician – Materials Testing for our growing client near Huntsville, AL
Schedule: Initial shift Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM, transitioning to Sunday–Thursday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay Rate: $20/hr

In this lab-based role, you'll be an essential part of the quality control and R&D process for high-performance metal powders used in cutting-edge industrial applications. If you're curious, detail-driven, and ready to put your science skills to work, this is your chance to gain hands-on experience with sophisticated instrumentation in a supportive and evolving environment.
What You'll Do:
As a Laboratory Technician, you'll conduct a variety of precise tests to ensure our materials meet critical quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.

Analyze raw materials, in-process materials, and final product powders using advanced lab equipment

Perform trace elemental chemical analysis (initial focus: inorganic analysis using LECO instruments)

Support R&D initiatives with accurate and timely testing data

Execute testing under strict SOPs and maintain meticulous lab records

Work with a wide array of instrumentation, including:

Spectrometers (AA, XRF, DCP)
-
Analytical balances & microscope imaging systems
-
Sedigraph & Malvern particle size analyzers
-
Carbon, Sulfur, Oxygen, and Nitrogen analyzers
-
Microwave digestion systems
-
Physical testing and software-integrated lab systems
What You Bring:
We're looking for someone with a sharp eye for detail, a passion for problem-solving, and a strong technical mindset.
Required:
-
Basic chemistry knowledge and familiarity with testing procedures
-
Comfortable working with trace elemental analysis and raw materials
-
Strong math and data recording skills
-
Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office & instrumentation software)

Ability to follow written procedures and work independently after training

1+ year experience in an industrial or analytical lab (preferred)
Education:
-
High School diploma or GED with chemistry & algebra required
-
College coursework in chemistry or physical sciences strongly preferred
-
Candidates with relevant degrees may be eligible for promotion to Chemist roles upon conversion
