Kelly is currently Hiring for Maintenance & Reliability Engineer (P.ENG) with our prestigious client at Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta - Onsite role.

Title: Maintenance & Reliability Engineer (P.ENG)
Location: Prentiss Site (Travel to Lacombe site)
Duration: 14-month contract role
Mon to Friday - 7:30 am – 4:00 pm MST. (OT) No turnaround.
2 days in Red deer 3 days work onsite.
late 22nd September.
In-person – Prentiss site.



Maintenance and Reliability Engineer:

  • The role of the Reliability Engineer provides mechanical engineering expertise to assist the plant to achieve its production objectives. 
  • Maintenance engineering expertise is applied to address immediate and ongoing issues including pipe repairs, pressure vessel repairs or rotating equipment troubleshooting.
  • This role requires the ability to work with other professionals to prioritize activities to support both the immediate, urgent issues and the longer term, strategic issues of a glycol production facility.
  • Mechanical Engineering degree from accredited university is required.
  • APEGA P.Eng status in good standing. Ability to authenticate engineering documents.

Job Purpose
The Maintenance & Reliability Engineer provides engineering expertise to assist the plant to achieve its Asset Mechanical Reliability and Asset Capability objectives.  Maintenance engineering expertise is applied to address immediate and ongoing issues.  Reliability Engineering principles and tools are applied to provide longer term solutions affecting asset integrity and long-term cost of ownership. This role requires the ability to balance and prioritize activities to support both the immediate, urgent issues and the longer term, strategic issues.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Achieves Asset Mechanical Reliability (AMR) business objectives and assists businesses in meeting Asset Capability (AC) objectives.
  • Uses reliability engineering principles and tools (such as Condition Based Monitoring, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Risk Based Inspection, Weibull, RCI, FMEA) to improve AC and AMR and long-term cost of ownership of the facility.
  • Develops and implements Facility and Equipment Maintenance Strategies to improve AC and AMR and long-term cost of ownership of the facility. Completes gap assessments and implements action plans to fulfill the maintenance strategies.
  • Acts as a Facilitator for the Root Cause Investigation (RCI) process; serves as local SME on the application of the cause and effect methodology in all areas where reliability opportunities are identified and where the RCI triggers for reliability are met. Validates RCI solutions and corrective actions and assesses their effectiveness for preventing recurrence.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in equipment failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations.
  • Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.
  • Ensures maintenance repair procedures, repair techniques, and equipment specific training are documented and made available. Ensures that work requests include engineering input on repair details such as clearances, tolerances, materials of construction, welding procedures, etc. and if necessary provide onsite/offsite technical support.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of the PPM program by showing quantitatively the impact of failures and PPM.
  • Provides input to the maintenance budget for the plant based on planned maintenance as well as predicted or anticipated failures.
  • Ensures spare parts strategy is implemented to maintain the optimum amount of spares for scheduled and breakdown maintenance.
  • Uses long term cost of ownership and reliability engineering principles to define spare parts strategy. Provides engineering support for specification, identification, and purchasing of needed parts.
  • Documents the facility opportunity list. Establishes value for the reliability opportunities, utilizing facility asset utilization and maintenance costs data.  Determines the proper work process to address the reliability opportunities on the facility opportunity list (fix the obvious, TICA, Six Sigma).
  • Provides reliability and maintainability input to Engineering capital and expense projects and other improvement activities. Evaluates and quantifies the impact projects such as equipment reconfigurations, design changes, equipment quality, operating discipline, PPM strategies, etc. will have on ability to meet Company needs. Participates in reliability network activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor of Engineering in any field, preferably Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows & MS Office
  • Good communication skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Root Cause Analysis facilitation
  • SAP Plant maintenance PM modules.
  • Capable of understanding the plant operation.
