Job Title: Material Handler
Department: Production
Reports to: Production Manager
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
Pay Rate: $20/hr

Job Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for operating a forklift to support production processes by supplying materials, managing storage, and handling logistics in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills:

  • Comprehension and Communication: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operational and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Proficient in filling out safety inspection and shipping reports.
  • Mathematical Skills: Competent in performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability: Capable of understanding and executing written, verbal, or diagrammed instructions.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a forklift and comply with all safety procedures and plant rules.
  • Supply production cells with necessary materials promptly.
  • Load and unload trucks in the shipping area as required.
  • Organize storage racks and manage steel coil inventory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must have Steel Toe Boots
Physical Demands
  • Ability to talk, hear, see, and use hands/fingers to handle or feel.
  • Capability to sit on a forklift for extended periods, up to 10 hours per day.
  • Occasionally walk, bend, stoop, crawl, or kneel.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance or lifting equipment.
Work Environment
  • Production environment with potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • High noise level; work near machinery, forklifts, welders, and automated assembly fixtures.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required when in the plant.
