Kelly is seeking a Plant Controller to work with our client, a successful and growing food manufacturing organization, on a direct hire basis.

The Plant Controller will:

  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to Plant Management, Operations, and Corporate Finance
  • Translate operational data into meaningful financial insights to support real-time decision making
  • Develop and present actionable reporting and KPI dashboards to plant and executive leadership
  • Drive initiatives to improve EBITDA, cash flow, and working capital performance
  • Lead full lifecycle cost accounting, including establishing and maintaining accurate standard costs
  • Analyze cost variances for labor, materials, overhead, and yield; provide detailed root cause explanations
  • Perform margin analysis and monitor profitability by product line, SKU, customer, or segment
  • Continuously evaluate cost structures and identify opportunities for savings and efficiency
  • Ensure accurate and timely inventory valuation across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
  • Oversee cycle counts, physical inventory, and reconciliation of inventory discrepancies
  • Analyze material consumption and scrap rates, supporting better planning and procurement decisions
  • Drive continuous improvement in inventory accuracy and turnover metrics
  • Manage all aspects of the plant's monthly financial close—journal entries, accruals, reconciliations
  • Ensure integrity of plant-level financial statements and alignment with corporate reporting
  • Prepare and deliver detailed variance analysis (actuals vs. budget/forecast/prior period)
  • Support internal and external audit processes with complete and accurate documentation
  • Lead plant-level annual budgeting and monthly/quarterly forecasting processes
  • Track and forecast manufacturing costs, headcount, capex, and operational metrics
  • Support evaluation and financial justification of capital investments (ROI, NPV, payback)
  • Ensure disciplined capex tracking and reporting in line with corporate expectations
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with corporate policies and GAAP
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, systems, and reporting
  • Champion a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement within the plant
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; CPA/CMA or MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing plant controller or cost accounting leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory control, and operational finance
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage 100); proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools
  • Demonstrated ability to lead financial operations, influence non-financial stakeholders, and support strategic initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills with a proactive, hands-on, and problem-solving mindset
