Polymer Synthetic Chemist
Kelly OCG a Polymer Chemist for our client a leading medical device company in Raritan, NJ. We are seeking an accomplished Polymer Synthetic Chemist with proven expertise in laboratory synthesis of Polyoxazoline (POx) derivatives, and possible pilot-scale production. The role requires close collaboration with Polymer Process Engineers to optimize process parameters for large-scale manufacturing. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in polymer synthesis, with demonstrated experience in advancing projects from lab to pilot scale, complemented by proficiency in molecular modeling. This presents an exciting opportunity to drive innovative polymer applications within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Schedule: On-site Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm
Length of assignment : one year
Pay rate : $45 an hour with some flexibility depending on experience
Responsibilities

  • Polymer Synthesis: Drive and perform lab-scale synthesis of polyoxazoline (POx) derivatives utilizing both established and innovative techniques, ensuring the production of high-purity and high-quality materials.
  • Modeling and Characterization: Utilize molecular modeling techniques to predict polymer behavior and properties and further optimize reactions; perform thorough characterization of synthesized materials using various analytical techniques (NMR, GPC, FTIR, etc.).
  • Pilot Scale Development: Scale up laboratory processes to pilot production, working in partnership with Polymer Process Engineers to optimize parameters for larger-scale manufacturing.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and results; prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, formulation scientists, analytical chemists, and quality control personnel, to integrate POx materials into product development.
  • Qualifications Education: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Polymer Chemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field. Experience and Skills
  • Demonstrated track record in designing and synthesizing custom polymers for medical device or pharmaceutical use.
  • Proficient with various polymer synthesis methodologies, especially in producing polyoxazoline (POx) derivatives via cationic ring-opening polymerization and related techniques.
  • Hands-on experience in scaling polymer synthesis from laboratory to pilot level.
  • Strong analytical thinking and creative problem-solving.
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in industrial research is required
  • Preferred Attributes: Excellent communication skills and team orientation.  A demonstrated ability to innovate independently and thrive in collaborative settings.  Diligent attention to detail, with a commitment to quality and lab safety.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% as needed
