Senior Scientist/Technical Supervisor – Molecular Pathology

Location: Onsite in Livingston, NJ | Minimal Travel (<5%)

Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking a Sr. Scientist/Technical Supervisor, for one of our clients, a global leader in fertility and women's healthcare, for a high-complexity clinical laboratory.

Position Overview
This role provides technical and scientific oversight of molecular diagnostic testing in a regulated clinical laboratory environment. The Sr. Scientist/Technical Supervisor will lead assay performance, quality systems, validation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives while working cross-functionally with R&D, laboratory operations, and quality teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and scientific oversight of laboratory operations, including selection of appropriate test methodologies
  • Verify analytical performance of test procedures and ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Establish and maintain quality control programs from raw material receipt through reporting of results
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve technical problems; implement corrective and preventive actions when systems deviate from specifications
  • Perform hands-on wet lab experiments to evaluate and improve existing genetic testing assays
  • Partner with R&D teams to support new product introduction through rigorous verification and validation protocols
  • Analyze and interpret sequencing data (Sanger and NGS) to assess data quality, identify trends, and support troubleshooting and optimization
  • Drive technology transfer and implementation of new assays or assay improvements
  • Author and approve SOPs, work instructions, test methods, and technical reports
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, NYS DOH, ISO 15189, and ISO 13485 requirements

Work Environment
  • Split between office and clinical laboratory settings
  • May involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens, hazardous materials, or infectious agents
  • Prolonged computer-based work required
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as business needs require

Education & Certification
  • PhD in Biological Sciences with specialized training and/or relevant experience in molecular pathology
  • Must meet requirements to serve as Technical Supervisor in a high-complexity molecular pathology laboratory
  • ASCP certification and/or NYS Clinical Laboratory Qualification (CQ) preferred

Experience Requirements
  • 5+ years in a high-complexity clinical laboratory
  • Minimum 2 years in molecular pathology

Required Qualifications
  • In-depth technical expertise in molecular biology, genomics, and molecular pathology
  • Hands-on experience with Sanger and Next Generation Sequencing
platforms and data interpretation
  • Demonstrated experience in assay, method, or process development, optimization, verification, and validation
  • Strong understanding of regulated clinical laboratory environments
  • Proven ability to work independently and/or lead technical teams with minimal supervision
  • Excellent documentation skills and adherence to Good Documentation Practices
  • Experience authoring and approving SOPs, test methods, and reports
  • Advanced computer proficiency (Microsoft Office; experience with Minitab, CAD, or equivalent preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
