Soil Barn Technician

Kelly Science and Clinical business unit of Kelly Services, Inc., is currently seeking a Soil Barn Technician for a long-term engagement at one of our Global agriculture clients in Indianapolis, IN. This role is a full-time, fully benefited position. As a Kelly  employee, you will be eligible for Medical, Dental, 401K and paid time off, including holiday, vacation and sick/personal time.
$20 an hour
Monday to Friday on site 7am-4pm
Purpose:
As a Lab Technician you will play a vital role in the maintenance and operation of our growing and planting facilities. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills with an interest in plant care. You will work closely with the research enablement team to prepare materials for research projects. You will need to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organization of your work areas.
Scope:
This job is highly routine, detail oriented, and focuses primarily on preparing and maintaining quality materials for researchers. There may be a risk of allergens related to preparing soil and plant materials.
Responsibilities:

• Handling a variety of plant species
• Validate and troubleshoot irrigation events for plant material in growth chambers
• Help load and unload plant material from growth chambers
• Cleaning growth chambers, automated equipment, and lab spaces
• Pest Scouting
• Log damaged equipment
• Pot assembly and filling
• Flat seeding by hand or with automated equipment

Qualifications:

• Plant Science Experience preferred; College Degree not required but preferred;.
• Ability to work with soil/Media
• Ability to work with plants of different species.
• Ability to work with and around automated equipment- pot fillers, seeder, bench moving systems.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time and possess acute attention to detail.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in a team environment and be comfortable working alone on solitary tasks as well.
• Must have good organization skills, great attention to detail, follow SOPs & verbal instructions, and adhere to safety & compliance protocols.
• Should be able to complete tasks with little supervision after the initial training period is over.
• Must be a fast learner and flexible as tasks, customer requests change frequently or with little notice.
• Time management is very important as most tasks need to be started and completed within the same day.
