Systems Engineer 
 
Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Systems Engineer for a full-time position with a small automotive company in Dexter, MI. Our client is open to hiring either as contract to hire or direct hire. Overview 
 
This client is a small start up organization that specializes in providing products and consulting solutions for testing & validating automotive body controls. As part of the engineering team, you'll work on the development, integration, and validation of body control features for a variety of applications and clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Define system-level requirements and specifications for body control functions, including exterior/interior lighting, wipers, power windows, locks, HVAC, and other comfort/convenience features.
  • Develop and manage interface definitions between hardware, software, and networked vehicle systems.
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, and mechanical engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Lead requirements traceability, ensuring all features meet customer, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Support functional safety and cybersecurity analysis in compliance with industry standards (ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434) as needed
  • Plan and execute system validation activities, including bench testing, vehicle testing, and simulation-based verification.
  • Troubleshoot system issues across hardware, software, and network domains, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Maintain clear documentation for requirements, test plans, system architecture, and integration guides.
  • Drive continuous improvement in systems engineering methods, tools, and workflows.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in any of the follow engineering disciplines: Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Automotive, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of direct experience in automotive systems engineering, with emphasis on body electronics or comfort/convenience systems.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle network protocols & embedded control systems
  • Familiarity with systems engineering tools such as DOORS, Jama, or Polarion (preferred)
  • Proficiency in vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and associated analysis tools (Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, etc.).
  • Experience in requirements management, system architecture design, and system-level testing.
  • Working knowledge of automotive functional safety and cybersecurity processes.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and network communication matrices.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or model-based systems engineering methods.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced, self-directed environment and managing multiple system development efforts simultaneously.

  • Ability to clearly communicate technical findings and system-level tradeoffs to cross-functional teams and clients.
  • Record of building trust across the team and with clients by demonstrating technical credibility, ownership, and accountability.
  • Result Orientation – Persistent attention to detail and commitment to delivering systems that meet all requirements on schedule.
  • Innovation and Product Focus – Identify and implement new tools, architectures, or processes to improve system robustness and development efficiency.
