Position Overview
The Technical Supervisor – Metals serves as the technical authority for laboratory methods, instrumentation, and analytical validity within the Chemistry department. This role ensures the scientific integrity, regulatory compliance, and defensibility of analytical data generated by the laboratory. The position is dedicated to technical oversight, method governance, and quality compliance and does not include direct personnel management or business accountability responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise to laboratory staff.

  • Ensure analytical testing activities comply with scientific standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain technical oversight of laboratory instrumentation to ensure operational readiness and compliance.

  • Lead method validation, authorization, and technical review of analytical data.

  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and defensibility of laboratory reports prior to release.

  • Develop and oversee technical training and competency standards to support staff proficiency.

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks within laboratory processes.

  • Perform sample preparation, analytical testing, and data interpretation as needed.

  • Author, revise, and manage controlled SOPs in accordance with Quality Management System (QMS) and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee SOP review, change control, and QA/QC approval processes to ensure alignment with validated methods and compliance standards.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing technical documentation and evidence of compliance.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline required, or a Bachelor's degree in a related field with a minimum of 24 semester credit hours in chemistry. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in analytical laboratory operations.

  • Experience with TNI 2016 standards preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise in analytical instrumentation and technical data review.

  • Experience in a regulated laboratory environment (e.g., ISO 17025, GMP, or similar) preferred.

  • ICP-MS experience preferred.

  • Ability to work a minimum 40-hour work week, with overtime or weekend work as required.
