Position Overview
The Test Set Engineer II will be responsible for the design and development of Thales LRU and SRU test software and test hardware (adapters and cables) for automated and semi-automated test systems covering Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 testing. This includes the documentation and release of test engineer processes and hardware drawings in the Thales document repository system (Team Center). The role additionally involves executing and analyzing tests and logs for IFEC products, systems, or components, ensuring they meet quality standards, design specifications, and identifying and resolving issues (troubleshooting).
 
This position covers all aspects of the test tools deployment and support for both production and repair at Thales and airline repair stations and contract manufacturers. Including but not limited to communicating with stakeholders and customers by managing support requests by means of tools such as JIRA, emails and MS Teams. Travel to sites, domestic and international, to support may also be required from time to time, especially if other means are not able to resolve support needed.
 
Working with other Thales departments (PSE, ISPM, IFE Design Authority) to assist troubleshooting their tools (software and hardware) and providing solutions as required. As well as building and incorporating solutions based on their suggestions to improve fault finding, into our developed tools. Managing test tool hardware obsolescence and suggesting alternatives.
Essential Functions / Key Areas of Responsibility
1. Leadership
o Influences internal / external customers / stakeholders.
o Lead meetings as a representative of GSRE and Thales.

2. Solution development
o Proactively monitor the performance for the in service GSRE and provide appropriate solutions to keep high performance levels.
o Works with other engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure product quality and meet project goals for testing.
o Works with other departments (PSE) to define, design and develop solutions for their projects.
o Manages the implementation of product engineering change orders in our test tools (HW/SW).
o Defect management: collaborate with interdepartmental teams to resolve identified issues.
o Participate in design reviews to provide feedback on testability and implementation
o Provide test obsolescence solutions
o Mitigate test problems at contract manufacturer, Thales and Airline repair stations
o Automation: developing and maintaining test automation frameworks and scripts
o Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures

3. Documentation
o Defining and releasing project documents and drawings for GSRE tools.

4. Communication
o Ability to communicate through all levels of the organization, as well as external customers and Field/Repair Shop personnel through verbal and written communication.
o Able to represent Thales when working with an OEM, Suppliers, CM's and Customers on technical issues.
o The ability to synthetize complex issues in a clear and understandable manner.

5. Financial Impact
o Leads efforts to reduce sustaining/repair cost to Thales.
o Define scope of work for assigned projects (Estimated Project hours, Level of Effort, Cost)
o Procurement duties (RFQ, Submit PR's, manage orders) for internal and external customers for test tools.
 


Minimum Requirements:
 
· Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study or an equivalent combination education and experience with 6 years relevant engineering experience
· Experience working with software programming languages including but not limited to:
o Windows 7/10/11
o Linux variations
o NI LabVIEW/TestStand
o Visual Studio
· Experience working with protocols including but not limited to:
o Ethernet, USB, RS232, RS-422, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and networking protocols
· Have a working knowledge of Interfacing & Networking: Serial, Ethernet, IP/MAC addressing, VLAN, broadcast & multicast
· Have a working knowledge of test instruments: Spectrum Analyzers, Power meters, Audio analyzers, signal/function generators, oscilloscopes, and other test related instruments.
· Ability to follow test procedures and good attention to detail
· Strong work ethic and drive to succeed with a strong sense of accountability and integrity
· Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere.
 
Preferred Qualifications
· Knowledge of software product SAP and JIRA system would be an advantage
· Knowledge of other software languages such as, Android or Python
· Knowledge of software product Git, Github or Bitbucket would be an advantage
· Familiar with ARINC standards applicable to IFE and/or Airborne Satcom systems
· Familiarity with Digital and RF test techniques
· Familiarity with Audio and video analysis including NTSC TV standards
