Summary: The Senior Safety Supervisor is responsible for developing and managing the accident prevention program and the laws that relate to the safety of our work for the area they are assigned. The candidate should also be qualified to cover fully the role of the Safety Manager in her absence from the works. Approval by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a prerequisite for hiring.
Administer compliance with the safety program and lead accident prevention efforts to ensure company and project safety goals are met. The Safety Manager is responsible for managing, communicating, implementing and enforcing compliance with the Contractor's APP and other accepted safety and health submittals.
Conduct work area assessments
Develop and facilitate appropriate training programs
Supervise, develop, and manage other safety professionals under his/her area of responsibility to ensure the effective administration of the project/company accident prevention efforts
Develop, organize, and implement safety related programs that meet company safety standards
Perform and document jobsite inspections and audits with a focus on hazard recognition and unsafe behaviors. Follow up with corrective action reports.
Coordinate and conduct safety meetings/training programs to ensure effective communication amongst employees
Participate in regulatory agency inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Adhere to the EM 385 1-1 Safety and Health Manual and the District specs.
Ensure safety completion by reviewing the JHA's (job hazard analysis) for daily phases of our work and revising AHA's (Activity hazard analysis) as needed for definable features of work.
Keep in contact with corporate insurance department to ensure proper documentation has been prepared and maintained on asset loss and workers compensation claims. Report near miss and accident investigation reports to corporate and district and district as required by the specs.
Carry out job duties while maintaining Lane values
Oversee and direct additional Safety Assistants in their daily duties.
Must have knowledge and understanding of Construction Safety Orders, MUTCD standards, fail protection, OSHA, MSHA, and other state and federal agency guidelines
Must have 5 years or more of safety supervision of construction work
Must have credentials to train OSHA 10 and 30 Hour program.
Have training and knowledge of Traffic Control, Rigging, Crane Basics, Confined Space, Lockout Tagout and Asphalt/Concrete plant basics
The ability to make independent judgments concerning the general safety of workers
Team player with a professional image, capable of handling highly confidential information
Exercise excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
