POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Lead II reports to the Production Supervisor and is based out of our Hendersonville, North Carolina location. This individual will support all operators on the line by helping with lean system sustainment, daily management system, continuous improvement activities, line balancing, troubleshooting equipment, product quality checks, product safety (including sensory (CQP), and monitoring of CCP requirements), support break and lunch relief while keeping a clean and organized work area. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of the job)

Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrate understanding and ownership of lean systems and processes, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), daily management systems, continuous improvement tools, and application
  • Coach and mentor to change behaviors and implement and sustain lean processes inclusive of safety, quality, line speed, and yield control standard processes
  • Demonstrate mechanical abilities to conduct/train/coach preventive and corrective maintenance on production filling, labeling, and packaging equipment.
  • Train production filler, labeler, and packer team members on preventive equipment and process monitoring checks
  • Write and train on Standard Operating Procedures and One Point Lessons using computer programs and applications.
  • Fill in for production supervisor occasionally, complete administrative and reporting tasks related to this position
  • Undertake assigned root cause problem-solving and continuous improvement projects
  • Gain and maintain expert knowledge and training ability on each line-specific piece of equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area:
    1. Occasional hosing down and mopping the area as needed throughout the day
    2. Assist the line operators in picking up dropped caps, bottles, labels, cardboard or any other spillage in the production area
    3. Ensure floors free of juice by washing down any spillage to minimize slippery conditions
    4. Ensure the area is organized and free of debris, such as wood chips from pallets, especially near the filler
    5. Ensure the area is wiped and cleaned through the “clean as you go” program
  • Operate and troubleshoot equipment throughout the line and support maintenance when there is downtime
  • Assist with package changeovers on all the equipment by adjusting rails, swapping out change parts on the filler, labeler, and packer
  • Fill in occasionally for production equipment operators Coordinate breaks and lunches with other operators and fill in as the operator while the operator is on break or lunch
  • Ensure the highest productivity on the line by maintaining a balanced line and reducing or minimizing waste on the line when it comes to juice, caps, labels, cardboard, bottles, and other packaging materials
  • Reworks bottles from the empty chute from the single filler and dumps back juice that is reworkable
  • Ensure good quality product by assisting the operators with analytical checks such as sensory (CQP), monitoring of CCP requirements, brix, TA, correct label usage, correct coding, and correct use of trays/RSC.   Verify individual runs on the cap code, bottle code, and case code
  • Coordinate with the forklift operator on correct bottle usage at the filler
  • Verify employees are using equipment guards and following safety rules and policies
  • Train new employees that are hired in the work area assigned
  • Advanced knowledge of the field
  • Lead by example and assist others who may need guidance
  • Be accessible for employees to ask questions regarding areas of expertise
  • Provide positive recognition to employees who exhibit good behavior in their work area
  • Provide feedback to managers on individual and team performance
  • Accountable for food safety, food quality, and regulatory requirements for their position
  • Encouraged to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues
  • Adopt and maintain all SQF requirements for their position
  • Empowerment to work with supervision to resolve food safety and food quality issues within their scope of work
  • This role will be required to taste test products as needed, up to a couple of ounces per test
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associates Degree preferred
  • Two years of production experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detailed oriented and can multi-task
  • Excellent time management skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a typical office setting; able to lift 50+ lbs., driving a motor vehicle and occasionally working in the field.

 

FREQUENT:  sitting, upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity and light to moderate finger pressure to include extended periods of keyboard and mouse use, side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending and stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting at waist, moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials.

 

OCCASIONAL:  squatting, kneeling, reach above and at shoulder height, moderate grasp to manipulate reference books and manuals; lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet.

 

VISION:  Ability to see in the normal visual range with or without correction.

 

HEARING:  Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
