Position Title:

Electrical Controls Technician

Department:

Director of Manufacturing (Plant)



Position Summary:

Be part of a team that is responsible for the continuous improvement in production via control sequences, drawings, and hardware. Work closely with the Maintenance Department to design and create these building automation systems along with providing technical support.


 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Electrical/Controls:

  1. Electrical design:
  1. Maintain, repair and adjust electrical equipment including circuity, manual and electrical controls, motors inter-locking systems, heating controls, sensing devices DC and AC drives
  2. Assist in the install of electrical for all new equipment
  3. Document and maintain electrical modifications to equipment in schematic drawings. 
  4. Proficient with all machines drives such as Digital, Servos, Analog and VFD's, Computers and PLC's. 
  5. New machine controls and control upgrades project management and research. 
  6. Manages electrical contractors' installation for projects 
  1. PLC Programming (Using Software Package): 
  1. Draft new programs
  2. Revise existing programs
  3. Revise existing screens
  4. Maintain program archives (revision tracking)
  5. Documentation
  6. Develop controls systems to continuously update the existing systems to newer technology.
  7. Maintain and update software to match the latest machine installs.
  8. Design and update systems to automate processes.
  9. Maintain robotic palletizer, including designing and maintaining robotic palletizer programs with the Palletsolver software.
  10. Maintain and manage independent IIOT (plant floor) network, servers, and routers.
  1. HMI Programming (Using Software Package): 
  1. Draft new screens
  2. Maintain program archives (revision tracking) 
  3. Documentation
  4. Maintain SCADA network and related computer equipment





2.Maintenance Support: 

  1. Provide after-hours tech support
  2. Troubleshooting: Rockwell automation, Compact Logics and SLC, networking switches
  3. Part testing
  4. Remote desktop into control network (PLC)
  5. Training opportunities with vendors
  6. Select and order parts
  7. Fill in when short handed
  8. Input information into the maintenance management systems and keep documents and records complete.
  9. Manage the electrical portion of the preventative maintenance program. Including a quarterly thermal analysis report on each piece of equipment.
  10. Move systems towards predictive/preventative maintenance instead of reactive maintenance practices. Including developing a vibration analysis program for each motor and gearbox.
  11. Oversee the electrical and programming portions of all machine upgrades and new equipment installs.
  12. Train and update maintenance personnel on new processes and technologies.


3.Miscellaneous: 

  1. Work on HVAC controls
  2. Maintain servers used for control system
  3. Maintain communication network running over TCP/IP
  4. Maintain and track IP device map
  5. Operator training
  6. Develop prototypes to add to, improve or change existing equipment
  7. Calibrate equipment
  8. Ongoing SGFM inter-structure documentation
  9. Wiring and installation
  10. Analyze plant processes and continuously work to improve efficiencies.
  11. Use standard manufacturing practices (Lean, Root Cause Analysis and Kepner Tregoe) to identify root causes of issues and work to resolve them.
  12. Maintain electrical AutoCAD files and draft when necessary.
  13. Develop controls solutions to enhance processes.
  14. Work with engineering on designing new processes and projects to maintain consistency with existing processes and network.
  15. Maintain and manage Plex/Mach 2 downtime tracking software.
  16. Maintain and manage user database for Plex/Mach 2 downtime tracking software
  17. Manage user database of Retort software.
  18. Conduct Coaching sessions with Staff/Maintenance when necessary.


 

All other necessary duties as assigned by Supervisor. 


Requirements Necessary to Perform This Job Function: (Educational & Physical)

  • High School Diploma
  • 3 to 5 years' experience as an Electronic Tech or equivalent electrical experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have electrical education, training, and experience
  • Must have ability troubleshoot in Rockwell automation including Allen-Bradley, Compact Logics and SLC
  • Must have previous experience working with PLC & HMI
  • Proficient in Computer use to include Microsoft Suite Software to include Excel Spreadsheets
  • Excellent problem-solving skills a must
  • Flexibility with work assignments and hours
  • Manual dexterity
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to reach, lift bend knees, stoop, climb and push or pull items weighing 50 lbs. or more
  • Ability to travel in plane, train or car if necessary

  • Schedule flexibility is required to support plant operations.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a typical office setting; driving a motor vehicle and occasionally working in the field.


FREQUENT: sitting, upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity and light to moderate finger pressure to include extended periods of keyboard and mouse use, side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending and stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting at waist, moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials.


OCCASIONAL: squatting, kneeling, reach above and at shoulder height, moderate grasp to manipulate reference books and manuals; lifting objects weighing 50 lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet.


VISION: Ability to see in the normal visual range with or without correction.


HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
