As the Director, you will be responsible for two (2) large patient kitchens, three (3) public cafeterias, a busy doctors' lounge, catering kitchen, meal preparation for our childcare center, as well as a Starbucks coffee kiosk in the hospital as well as one in our new University of South Carolina College of Nursing building, plus all services provided at our extended care facility.  This position involves complete operational and financial responsibility. You will provide overall leadership for our team of four (4) Managers and one (1) Assistant Director.  You'll coach and train your team for operational excellence, recognize and motivate all employees to optimize retention and continue Lexington Medical Center's exceptional culture. You will be responsible for planning, budgeting, patient and customer satisfaction ratings as well as directing and coordinating all activities of the Nutrition Services department in addition to our Lexington Medical Center Extended Care facility, a 388 bed nursing home and separate Alzheimer's Care facility.  Additionally, the Director provides direct oversight and coordination of hospital dietitian services as well as the design and execution of organizational special functions.

Job Summary

The Director of Nutrition Services is responsible for planning, budgeting, directing and coordinating all activities of the Nutrition Services department for Lexington Medical Center as well as Lexington Extended Care.  The Director is responsible for the quality of operations as measured by internal and external metrics, including regulatory agencies, patient and employee satisfaction results, staff turnover and other morale metrics.  The Director must prepare, recommend and achieve capital and operating budgetary outcomes while ensuring the services continually meet the needs of the organization.  The Director is responsible for the patient kitchens, public cafeterias, doctors' lounge, catering kitchen, meal preparation and delivery to the child care center, and the atrium coffee kiosk.  Provides oversight and coordination of hospital dietitian services as well as the design and execution of organizational special functions. This is a 365 day a year, nearly 24x7 operation spanning multiple campuses.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality, Institutional Food Service Management or related discipline.
Minimum Years of Experience: 5 Years of hospital or healthcare system food service management experience in a significant departmental leadership capacity overseeing an operation comparable in size, budget and complexity to LMC.
Substitutable Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree & 5 Years of Healthcare Food Service Management experience can be substituted for one of the following; 

Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in Hospitality, Institutional Food Service Management or related discipline & 7 years of experience in a significant departmental leadership capacity in institutional food service management. 3 years must be hospital or healthcare system focused;
Required Certifications/Licensure: Serve Safe Certification.
Required Training: Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.), budgeting, and statistical reporting with demonstrated competence in key performance monitoring and process management.
 

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for planning, budgeting, directing and coordinating all activities of the Nutrition Services department.
  • Develops and recommends department operating and capital equipment budget. Ensures that department operates within budget.
  • Responsible for delivering consistently impressive patient satisfaction results for food quality and staff courtesy.
  • Responsible for achieving impressive café/eatery customer satisfaction scores as measured multiple times throughout the year.
  • Responsible for achieving impressive annual/other regulatory inspections such as DHEC, DNV, FDA, etc.
  • Responsible for achieving a departmental culture that leads to admirable turnover and a very positive & appreciative work environment.
  • Demonstrates a "service before self" attitude of leadership and caring.  Serves as a "service ambassador" for the department and organization.
  • Responsible for impressive catering outcomes throughout the year to include board functions, annual celebrations in addition to a host of other catering events.
  • Leads with an attitude of finding ways to accomplish objectives rather than introducing reasons we can't accomplish an objective.
  • In partnership with their leadership team, develops annual goals and objectives that meet the needs of the organization.
  • Responsible for establishing and successfully implementing policies and procedures for departmental operations.
  • Responsible for the performance and leadership of the Clinical Dietetics functions and staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing with key performance indicators/dashboards/meaningful metrics of data that demonstrate the ongoing performance of multiple functions of the department.
  • Plans and directs activities of the Nutrition Services department for patients, employees, medical staff, volunteers and visitors to ensure delivery of timely, high quality & reliable nutrition and food services.
  • Able to capably and effectively multi-task and deliver on multiple projects/goal/assignments both at the hospital as well as at the extended care facility.
  • Develops comprehensive standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel & other operational actions.
  • Meets hospital management, HR, Vice President and other performance expectations expected of all Directors.
  • Responsible for any/all services or functions performed by the department.
  • Demonstrates appropriate communication of information to all ages and responds to all customers/patients requests and needs, i.e., hard of hearing, etc.
  • Selects, trains/orients and assigns department staff (either directly or through subordinate managers/supervisors). 
  • Ensures that food preparation areas are maintained to meet all DHEC, DNV and other regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for the actions/outcomes of and works very closely with the department's Chief Clinical Dietitian to evaluate and incorporate efforts of clinical staff into overall needs/goals of our patients, the medical staff and hospital.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in this field of expertise.
  • Maintenance of an optimistic, professional, can-do career oriented demeanor (positive role model) as a leader within your area at Lexington Medical Center. Exemplifies excellent customer relations toward patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers. Holds themselves and subordinates accountable for conformity to Service Excellence Policy and "House Rules."
