Title and Summary

Senior Data Engineer Overview:
Mastercard's Test & Learn team is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to drive the data engineering efforts that power client-facing experimentation and analytics solutions within our Services group. In this role, you will design and build robust, scalable data pipelines, lead complex ETL development, and partner closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful, data-driven products. You will also help foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical excellence.
The Test & Learn team within Mastercard's Services organization aims to build industry-leading business experimentation software that brings sophisticated analytic techniques to business users around the world. We are rapidly expanding our product offerings and innovating on how we deliver Test & Learn solutions to our clients.
Engineers work in small, flexible teams. Every team member contributes to designing, building, and testing features. There are no rigid organizational structures, and each team uses processes that work best for team members and projects.
This is a hybrid role based in Arlington, VA, requiring three days per week onsite.

Role:
• Independently lead projects through the design, automation, and maintenance of large-scale, enterprise-grade ETL processes supporting global clients.
• Serve as a technical subject matter expert within the team and across the region.
• Deliver timely, accurate, and scalable data solutions across multiple industries, clients, and business use cases.
• Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with both peers and stakeholders across global teams.
• Champion engineering best practices, including source control, code reviews, data validation, and testing.
• Design and implement process improvements to streamline data operations in a fast-paced, global environment.
• Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting their development and career growth.
• Ensure adherence to Mastercard's internal policies, security standards, and external compliance requirements.

All About You:
• Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, with deep knowledge of data engineering concepts and methodologies.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), particularly Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience with ETL frameworks and the ability to design, implement, and maintain data pipelines.
• Knowledge of testing and validating data to ensure accuracy and consistency in data pipelines.
• Experience leading cross-functional projects, with demonstrated ability to manage people, priorities, and deadlines across geographies.
• Critical thinker with a strong analytical mindset and the ability to break down complex problems into clear technical solutions.
• Comfortable navigating across business, technical, and data management teams to align solutions with business objectives.
• Skilled at quickly understanding business use cases and designing efficient, secure, and scalable data solutions.
• Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
• Flexibility to work with teams across multiple time zones.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance, or Business. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. Pay Ranges

Arlington, Virginia: $132,000 - $212,000 USD
