Title and Summary

Senior Data Engineer Overview:
Mastercard Services Technology is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to contribute to the data management aspects of client engagements for Test & Learn and other Services products. In this role, you will develop robust data pipelines, implement scalable data solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Engineers work in small, flexible teams. Every team member contributes to designing, building, and testing features.
The Test & Learn team aims to build industry-leading business experimentation software that brings sophisticated analytic techniques to business users around the world. We are rapidly expanding our product offerings and innovating on how we deliver Test & Learn solutions to our clients.
This is a hybrid role based in Arlington, VA, with an expectation of three days per week onsite.

Role:
• Independently lead projects through design, implementation, automation, and maintenance of large-scale enterprise ETL processes for a global client base.
• Act as an expert technical resource within the team and region
• Deliver on-time, accurate, high-value, and robust data solutions across multiple clients, solutions, and industry sectors.
• Apply strong analytical skills to understand business questions, translate them into data requirements, and design datasets that support reporting, experimentation, and advanced analytics use cases.
• Implement best practices and collaborate in the design of effective streamlined processes for a complex global solutions group.
• Leverage industry best practices including proper use of source control, participation in code reviews, data validation, and testing.
• Collaborate with and support junior Data Engineers, ensuring efficient execution of their tasks while providing mentorship and guidance.
• Partner with analytics and business stakeholders to validate data, interpret results, and ensure data solutions are fit for decision-making.
• Build trust-based working relationships with peers and clients across local and global teams.
• Comply and uphold all Mastercard internal policies and external regulations.

All About You:
• Experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of data engineering concepts and methodologies, including data modeling and database design to support scalable data solutions.
• Proven self-motivated professional with experience working with collaborative teams.
• Expertise writing and optimizing SQL queries to retrieve, manipulate, and analyze data efficiently.
• Experience with Relational Databases (RDBMS), with strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and related technologies.
• Familiarity with ETL frameworks and the ability to design, implement, and maintain data pipelines.
• Experience with Databricks and Spark is a plus, but not required.
• Demonstrates curiosity about emerging developer productivity tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot); prior experience is not required, but a willingness to learn and experiment is highly valued.
• Demonstrated skills in the ability to innovate, think critically and disaggregate problems. Able to provide oversight, validation, and quality control to own work product.
• Able to easily move between business, data management, and technical teams. Able to quickly intuit the business use case and identify technical solutions.
• Able to manage multiple projects and differing project priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Business, or a related field. Equivalent practical experience may also be considered.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Pay Ranges

Arlington, Virginia: $132,000 - $212,000 USD
