Title and Summary

Senior Platform Engineer Overview
• Identifies and selects appropriate technologies, develops, builds, and maintains database technologies and associated software products
• Independently contributes to system-level programs in support of database development and production support
• Writes and supports the development of SQL tuning statement procedures to optimize SQL tuning and query development
• Performs database implementations to optimize system/platform performance, efficiency, and capacity; may guide others on implementation and troubleshooting activities
• Supports database security posture which includes escalating potential concerns, and implementing both risk mitigation plans and control functions
• Drafts and reviews status reports and troubleshooting guides, carrying out project plans to ensure project milestones are met and progress is successfully communicated
• Recommends and implements business and process improvements to facilitate optimal performance
• Assists in the design, development, and testing of processes for physically loading initial data into a database and for loading cyclical data
• Performs production level support and be part of the on-call rotation when required
• Works with DB2 and 3rd-party vendor support
• Closely works with multiple application team developers and DBA's

Job Summary: As a DB2 Database Administrator at Mastercard, you will be responsible for ensuring the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Performance, Integrity, and Security of DB2 databases across mainframe (z/OS) environments. You will collaborate with platform engineering, application development, and audit teams to support mission-critical systems and enable secure, scalable, and resilient database solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
• Performance & Optimization:
o Monitor database performance and implement tuning measures.
o Optimize SQL queries and indexing strategies.
o Conduct capacity planning and scalability assessments.
• Security & Compliance:
o Manage database security, access controls, and encryption.
o Ensure compliance with Mastercard's data governance and audit requirements.
o Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Maintenance & Support:
o Support release implementations for various applications
o Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues.
o Good knowledge in supporting replication (Q-Replication), QMF, QMF for Windows, Db2 Connect and monitoring tools.
• Collaboration & Documentation:
o Work closely with developers, system programmers, and DBAs.
o Document database configurations, standards, and procedures.
o Assist in onboarding new applications and decommissioning legacy systems.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• hands-on experience with DB2 on z/OS
• Proficiency in SQL, JCL, SQL Tuning, REXX scripting, and automation tools.
• Proficiency in using BMC Admin Tool (CAT MGR, CHG MGR) and other BMC utilities
• Proficiency in using IBM tools Query Monitor, Log Analyzer and standards IBM utilities to manage and support very large Databases in Db2
• Experience with Q-Replication, and performance monitoring tools like MainView for Db2.
• Strong understanding of database architecture, partitioning, and replication.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
