Overview
The Software Engineer I is an entry‑level role within Mastercard's Technology organization. This position supports the Cryptographic Security program and the DCaaS (Distributed Crypto as a Service) product by assisting in the development, testing, and maintenance of secure cryptographic and data protection services used across Mastercard's digital payment ecosystem.

Role
• The role provides foundational exposure to secure, scalable service development, encryption technologies, and enterprise engineering standards. Working within Agile delivery teams, the Software Engineer I collaborates with experienced engineers to help deliver high‑quality, reliable, and security‑critical software components.
• Contribute to the design, development, testing, and implementation of software solutions under guidance from senior engineers
• Develop and maintain application code in accordance with established engineering, quality, and security standards
• Create and execute unit tests and support automated testing efforts
• Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback
• Assist with troubleshooting, defect resolution, and application support
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver assigned work on schedule
• Adhere to audit, compliance, and information security requirements

All About You / Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
• Foundational knowledge of software engineering concepts and the software development lifecycle
• Experience with one or more programming languages (academic, internship, or professional) (Rust/Go preferred)
• Familiarity with Agile development practices, testing concepts, and version control
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team‑based environment

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. O'Fallon, Missouri: $72,000 - $115,000 USD
