Schedule: Rotating weekends, Evening Shift 3:00pm-11:30pm
Must be available for 2-day day shift training upon hire.
General Summary of Position
The Patient Access Associate II acts as the first point of contact to patients guests and family members. Responsible for all registration duties in both inpatient and outpatient settings at MedStar Health. Works closely with clinical staff provides patients with essential care information and handles inquiries in a fast-paced 24/7 environment. Key responsibilities include greeting patients collecting and verifying patient demographics confirming insurance details and maintaining confidentiality in compliance with healthcare regulations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards; complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Ensures a smooth patient and provider experience in the assigned area.
- Addresses patient/family complaints and escalates to leadership when appropriate.
- Receives and answers telephone calls; schedules reschedules and confirms patient appointments.
- Creates encounters and obtains patient information for requested services as directed by the clinical department and location of service.
- Acts as the patient's first point of contact by greeting the patient and reviewing information upon arrival.
- Collects and captures accurate patient demographic and insurance information including verifying insurance eligibility through EHR software telephone or internet websites.
- Informs patients of payment options including payment plans financial assistance programs and compassionate care programs.
- Requests collects documents and communicates payment requirements for co-pays and deductibles.
- Complies with arm banding use of two patient identifiers and patient/document hand-off procedures.
- Attends required system Patient Access monthly and annual meetings except when on approved PTO.
- Cross trained and proficient in two or more areas of Patient Access Registration such as but not limited to Emergency Department Surgery and Admission.
- Functions as a preceptor in the orientation of new Patient Access personnel and students.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required and
Experience
- 1-2 years Customer service experience required and
- 1-2 years Patient registration experience required and
- 1-2 years Hospital experience or healthcare setting preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- CHAA - Certified Healthcare Access Associate CHAA (Certified Healthcare Access Associate) preferred
This position has a hiring range of
USD $18.70 - USD $32.72 /Hr.
