About the Job

General Summary of Position
Serves as the on-call transplant coordinator for the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute. Works off-site to provide night weekend and holiday coverage for the Institute. Triages patient and referring MD phone calls. Responds to organ offers and coordinates transplants. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provides on-call coverage and medical triage for outpatients in collaboration with the physicians on call.
  • Coordinates transplantation process when a donor is available (nights holidays weekends) including: communication between physicians local organ procurement organization patient/families and the medical team involved including ED OR ICU blood bank and histocompatilbility lab.
  • Completes necessary documentation according to the United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) guidelines including listing status changes and post-transplant follow-up information.
  • Provides clinical data entry for regulatory reporting.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures; attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor's degree of Science degree in the health sciences nursing or other related field required

Experience

  • 3-4 years Professional clinical experience as a registered nurse nurse practitioner physician assistant or registered dietitian required
  • Candidates with at least 1 year of previous transplant-related experience are strongly preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current D.C. licensure in discipline required
  • CCTC - Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical equipment and supplies to administer patient care; effective verbal and written communication skills; flexibility in schedule and tasks as needed; computer skills; good customer service skills and attitude team player; skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients medical staff and the public; ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge skills and abilities will be assessed within the first ninety days of employment.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $39.25 - USD $64.71 /Hr.
