General Summary of Position
Assembles, installs, repairs, evaluates, maintains, troubleshoots, and inspects imaging equipment to provide for safe and efficient diagnostic procedures.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, troubleshoots and repairs malfunctioning medical equipment, using all available resources; including: test equipment, service manuals and hand tools. Works with equipment manufacturers and corporate IT as required to complete repairs and associated paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Assures proper operation of equipment following repair and or preventive maintenance. Operates and evaluates the performance of equipment in assigned area. Responsible for quality control compliance following equipment repairs.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Installs, calibrates and maintains equipment in assigned area which includes, but not limited to laser cameras, general radiographic, diagnostic ultrasound, nuclear gamma cameras, Cath Lab, Special Procedure, fluoroscopic equipment CT and MRI. Troubleshoots, identifies mechanical, electrical and electronic problems; performs preventive maintenance and makes repairs or adjustments as needed. When necessary, utilizes vendor's technical support.
  • Maintains department records, reports, and files as required. Keeps current a technical library consisting of service and troubleshooting manuals.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and participates in multidisciplinary operations, quality and service improvement teams. Provides training for other Imaging Engineers.
  • Orders and maintains appropriate stock levels for repair parts and supplies for assigned equipment. Participates in negotiations, software upgrades and training support.
  • Participates in incident investigations and reporting related to clinical equipment failures. Defines causes and corrective action needed, which may include design additions, improvements, and modifications to electronic equipment.
  • Participates in meetings, on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Participates in service training of technicians concerning use and operation of equipment.
  • Researches and makes recommendations for new medical equipment and provides support through the installation process. Completes initial inspections and completes required paperwork.
  • Schedules and performs preventive maintenance inspections on medical devices and completes all associated paperwork in a timely and accurate manner. Is knowledgeable of applicable safety and electrical limits for healthcare equipment.
  • Travels between various system sites or provides phone support if required. Reports problems to the CE Manager at the local sites.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Associate's degree in electronic technology required or
    • Completion of courses in Radiologic Technology Service including advanced training program in electro-mechanical/electronic principles required or
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired required

    Experience

    • 8-10 years in repair and troubleshooting of related technology required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • CBET - Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician and/or eligibility required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to resolve and independently make decisions concerning the repair and maintenance of imaging equipment
    • Good verbal and written communication skills
    • Computer skills and working knowledge of IT networking highly preferred
