General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is looking for a Director of Strength & Conditioning!
As Director, you will lead and support Strength & Conditioning Specialists and Program Coordinators in the implementation, execution, and monitoring of strength and conditioning programs, while providing assistance in the rehabilitation of injured athletes. You will oversee the operations of multiple strength and conditioning facilities within MedStar Health, driving the growth, development, and financial success of these programs. You will cultivate strong relationships both within the MedStar network and the broader community to enhance program reach and impact.
Additionally, you will shape the development and supervision of sport-specific training and accelerated recovery protocols designed to address athletes' structural imbalances, improve speed, strength, and power, and enable athletes to overcome performance barriers caused by underlying inefficiencies. You will provide guidance and instruction on safe lifting techniques and proper spotting procedures, select appropriate exercises, and coaches athletes in strength, flexibility, and speed development. You will oversee aspects of injury rehabilitation, create long-term training plans, and collaborate closely with coaches and staff to design customized, performance-driven training protocols.

Primary Duties:
- Assists in promoting MedStar Health Integrated Delivery System by facilitation of the continuum of care for the sports clients served that supports regional strategies. Prepares and monitors budgets in collaboration with leadership and Finance. Is responsible to analyze reports and manage expenses and to promote revenue to assure to operate within the budget parameters. Meets or exceeds productivity and financial targets for the clinic/service(s). Assures that all billing is submitted timely and manages any accounts receivable issues for all facilities. Assists in the business design and development. Develops and implements programs that are cost effective, and value added. Catalyzes communication and collaboration with physicians, and other program/service stakeholders. Initiates, leads, cultivates and expands relationships with the community including but not limited to area high schools, club programs, and colleges, leads marketing and media content to increase awareness of the MedStar Sports Performance services throughout the community. Adheres/administers to all Sports Strength & Conditioning contracts. Leads negotiations and executes terms for contract with community such as high schools, club sports, or colleges.
- Consistently follows safe work practices during all job-related activities which includes following recommended use guidelines for patient treatment related equipment. In accordance with our service standards, holds safety first for all patients, visitors and team members, and patient and staff interactions. Independently manages the daily operations with a consistent focus to great access to care. This includes but is not limited to assuring appropriate staffing, controlling expenses, managing schedules, and assuring efficient processes are in place to support the team members and customers. Completes and/or contributes to the development of corrective action plans. Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures that the training center and equipment are kept clean and maintained. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
- Obtains and documents pertinent medical history, performance of specific assessments, initial status, progress, goals and results. Ensures that associates of MedStar Strength & Conditioning Program minimize the likelihood of sports related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled contests by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and proper prevention methods, directing appropriate pretraining session and pre-contest preparations and warmups, and working with qualified sports medicine personnel or athletic trainers during all training sessions and contest. Obtains and documents pertinent medical history, performance of specific assessments, initial status, progress, goals and results.
- Coordinates selection, coaching, orientation, mentoring and goal setting to promote improved team members performance and quality care enhancement. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management including managing poor performers effectively as well as recognizes top performances. Conducts performance appraisals timely. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
- Enables athletes to perform to their physical potential in their sport through the development and management of individual and group weight, strength and fitness training programs; develops programs by evaluating current physical conditioning, having a knowledge of the various sports and associated exercises, tailoring strength programs for specific needs, demonstrating proper performance of exercises, correcting mistakes; manages programs by monitoring progress and providing an assessment of development. Obtains and documents pertinent medical history, performance of specific assessments, initial status, progress, goals and results.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field.
- CPR certification (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required.
- CSCS Certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, or SCCC Certification by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.
- 5-7 years' experience supervising strength and conditioning programs preferred.
- Master's degree preferred.
This position has a hiring range of $38.48 - $62.52
