General Summary of Position
Provides care for patients with orthopedic conditions. Provides technical assistance in the management of patients who require traction, casts, braces, or other external orthopedic hardware. Maintains the orthopedic equipment and requisitions supplies.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Applies, modifies, and removes casts, splints, braces, etc. Fabricates, adjusts, and removes orthopedic devices, using appropriate tools and instruments. Applies mobilization and immobilization devices.
  • Assesses patients in traction and patients with casts, splints, braces, or other external orthopedic apparatus.
  • Assists physician in setting up and applying skeletal traction. Assists physicians in the application of traction and casts.
  • Evaluates orthopedic soft goods such as cervical collars, immobilizers, and cast materials; make recommendations for purchase and use.
  • Initiates prevention of iatrogenic complications with orthopedic equipment.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Performs dressing change and removal of sutures, staples, Steinmann pins, and wires.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Processes charges for orthopedic equipment and inventories orthopedic equipment. Maintains and stocks orthopedic equipment including the traction cart.
  • Reviews X-rays and X-ray reports. In collaboration with the physician, provides appropriate orthopedic technical care.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required

    Experience

    • Prior work experience not required required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
    • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.


    This position has a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08
