MedStar Health is looking for a Senior Mammography Technologist to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital!  

As a Senior Mammography Technologist, you will Coordinates and directs subordinate personnel, including clerical personnel, patient services assistants, and technical personnel engaged in performing basic and specialize mammography views.

Primary Duties: 

  • Serves as senior resource/team leader and coordinates ongoing workflow and activities of staff technologists and clerical personnel. Prepares monthly work schedules and staff assignments to ensure appropriate coverage for phones, mammography scheduling, registration functions, and overall mammography services. 

  • Coordinates daily scheduling of patients. Ensures subordinate support staff is totally trained with registration, insurance verification and scheduling protocols. Resolves scheduling conflicts and problems. Assumes clerical duties including the scheduling of patient examinations as required. Serves as an educational resource for staff instruction. Monitors and trains technologists in proper techniques, safety, and quality assurance. Provides input and recommends personnel actions including performance appraisals, merit increases and promotions for assigned personnel.  

  • Performs all forms of mammography imaging. Assists physicians in diagnostic procedures such as in ductograms, stereotactic core biopsy, breast localization and breast ultrasounds. Reviews and makes recommendations for revision of policies, procedures, and/or regulations and assists in the updating of department training manual. 

  • Assures proper use of RIS system including registration, billing, and other patient related functions. Prepares reports and maintains records of exams performed using (RIS). Resolves incomplete lists and ensures proper use of RIS system to include quality assurance and verification of films taken. Reports equipment in need of repair and/or maintenance and ensures supply levels are properly maintained. Makes recommendations for equipment and supply purchases. 

  • Reviews Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and (American College of Radiology documentation to ensure required information is complete and accurate. Collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory compliance as needed 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Associate's degree in Radiology Technology from an American Medical Association approved school.  

  • As part of their education, candidates must also demonstrate competency in didactic coursework and an ARRT-specified list of clinical procedures by completing competency requirements established for the discipline in which they are seeking certification and registration. 

  • 3-4 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience functioning as a mammographer. 

  • ARRT (Must have and maintain current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists). 

  • Certified by ARRT for advanced certification in mammography. 

  • Associates must comply with the ARRT Rules and Regulation and the ARRT Standards of Ethics.
