Our Patient Care Technicians support patient care activities, ensure a safe environment, and work closely with the care team to deliver compassionate service. Position Details:

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily patient care including hygiene, ambulation, positioning, and feeding assistance.

  • Monitor, document, and maintain accurate EMR records including vital signs and patient data.

  • Assist with admissions, discharges, transfers, and patient belongings.

  • Perform unit‑approved clinical skills such as point‑of‑care testing and basic specimen collection.

  • Support advanced patient care duties after competency validation (e.g., wound care, enteral feeding, blood cultures, IV removal).

  • Maintain safe patient environments through proper infection prevention and safety practices.

  • Perform clerical tasks such as answering phones and monitoring call lights.

  • Utilize unit technology (computers, Rovers, pagers, etc.) to support patient care.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. CNA/CPCT or enrollment in a healthcare career program preferred.

  • Experience: No experience required; Mercy provides a 175‑hour state‑approved training program (must be completed within 90 days of hire).

  • Certifications: BLS required within one month of hire; completion of PCT competencies within 3 months.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs; prolonged standing/walking; frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching.

Preferred

  • Previous patient care experience, EMT or Paramedic background.

  • Certifications such as CNA, EMT, AUA (state dependent), or CPCT.
