Responsible for identifying potential and existing drug-related problems and taking appropriate actions to prevent or resolve them. Work closely with the medical staff to design and implement pharmaceutical protocols. Facilitates the development and ongoing management of systems that promote desirable patient outcomes using safe, cost-effective medication therapy. Ensures the efficient utilization of resources to meet productivity and financial goals. Supports a compliant and effective 340B drug program. Coordinates specialty pharmacy services in collaboration with other pharmacy managers. Designs, implement and coordinates appropriate marketing programs to attract and maintain customer business. Position Overview
The Manager–Specialty Pharmacy oversees the coordination and delivery of specialty pharmacy services at an assigned location, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and supporting systemwide pharmacy excellence across Mercy's 80+ locations. This role partners with medical staff, leads operational improvements, supports 340B compliance, and ensures safe, cost‑effective medication therapy that improves patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of specialty pharmacy services.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and accreditation standards, including REMS, LDD, and 340B program requirements.
  • Collaborate with medical staff on medication therapy, policies, and protocols.
  • Oversee training, onboarding, and development for pharmacy staff.
  • Support quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and regulatory audits.
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, and operational workflows to achieve efficiency and financial goals.
  • Provide leadership through coaching, feedback, performance management, and team engagement.

Qualifications

  • BS Pharmacy and/or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required.
  • Current or eligible state pharmacist licensure.
  • Minimum 3 years of ambulatory/retail pharmacy experience and 3 years of management experience.
  • Medication Therapy Services certification (as required by state).
  • Strong clinical knowledge, leadership skills, communication abilities, and problem‑solving capabilities.
