Overview:
The Pharmacy Technician I assists pharmacists in preparing, compounding, and dispensing medications and are accountable to the supervising pharmacist who is legally responsible for the care and safety of the patients served by the pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician I follows applicable standards and federal, state & local laws and regulations for the care and safety of the customers and patients served.
Job Description:
The Pharmacy Technician I works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist according to all federal and state regulations.
Responsibilities of Pharmacy Technician I position include (but not limited to):
Inputs data into EPIC as appropriate
Prepares orders for dispensing by a pharmacist by retrieving, counting and at times mixing medication.
Accurately fills medication orders or prescriptions for medications in a timely manner.
Receives and maintains inventory of drugs and ensures their security.
May deliver or ship medication to patients after pharmacist verification.
Properly prepares for medication delivery or shipping.
May retrieve unused medications from the patient care areas or ready area within the pharmacy and will credit patients when appropriate.
Follows hazardous waste procedures.
Follows quality assurance standards and checks assigned areas for outdated medications
Maintains safety and sanitization of equipment.
Uses sound judgment to determine priority based on patients needs.
Delivers medication to nursing areas in a timely fashion.
Attends departmental meetings and huddles.
Orientation, Training, Development and Performance Management
Completes all hospital mandatory and department specific competency and education programs in a timely fashion.
Participates in the department orientation and training program for technicians.
Completes all pharmacy competencies for assigned work areas.
Completes EPIC and/or Willow training course, as appropriate.
Professionalism
Adheres to all Mercy-wide policies and procedures.
Uses Mercy Signature Service communication skills and demonstrates professionalism and customer service in daily activities.
Communicates appropriate information between shifts.
Displays professional and courteous behavior when working with other Mercy co-workers
Maintains proper hygiene, personal protective equipment and proper Mercy dress code & appearance.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalence exam.
Licensure: Actively registered, in good standing, with the State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician or willing to submit application for registration by first day of work. This includes submitting fingerprints for FBI background check.
Experience: 1-year relevant pharmacy experience preferred but not required
Other: Successfully complete pharmacy department orientation.
Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates advanced knowledge and use of all equipment; robotic dispensing equipment and automated dispensing cabinets as appropriate
Demonstrates proficiency with the operation of pharmacy automation technology systems and workflow management
Able to perform initial trouble shooting for automated pharmacy technology and associated software.
Ability to work under time constraints.
