About the Role
Under the direction of an RN or LPN, the Patient Care Associate (PCA) provides individualized care to patients, supporting their highest level of wellness. This role is essential to the Mother Baby Unit, ensuring compassionate care for mothers and newborns while working collaboratively as part of a dedicated healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with daily hygiene and routine activities, including ambulation, feeding assistance, and turning/positioning patients.
Monitor and document patient data (e.g., vital signs) in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Support admission, discharge, and transfer processes for patients and their belongings.
Perform point-of-care testing or specimen collection as required (e.g., glucose monitoring).
Observe and report changes in patient condition promptly to appropriate personnel.
Maintain compliance with safety protocols, infection prevention, and patient rights.
Utilize unit-specific technology for communication and documentation.
Perform clerical duties as needed (answer phones, monitor call lights).
Other duties as assigned.

Safety & Quality

Follow all Mercy policies related to safety, confidentiality, and patient rights.
Participate in quality improvement activities to enhance patient care.
Ensure a safe environment through fall precautions, restraint management, and safe patient handling.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous patient care experience preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and time management skills.
Commitment to maintaining certifications and completing required eLearning.
