Overview:

 

The Senior Vice President of Mission serves as a strategic and operational leader at the system level responsible for embedding and advancing Mercy's mission, values, and faith-based identity across all operations. This role ensures that the ministry's Catholic Identity and heritage are evident in decision-making, leadership development, community engagement, and caregiver experience. The SVP of Mission partners with executive leadership to foster a culture of compassion, service, and ethical integrity, while guiding initiatives that align with the organization's purpose and long-term vision.

 

Key Responsibilities

Mission Integration & Strategy

  • Lead the development and execution of mission integration strategies across all service lines and communities.
  • Ensure alignment of organizational goals with the ministry's core values and Catholic identity.
  • Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and executive team on ethical, spiritual, and cultural matters.
  • Serve on the Mercy Senior Leadership Team to facilitate the understanding of and application of the Mery mission, values, charism and Catholic Identity into ministry-wide organizational decisions, practices, and activities.

Spiritual Leadership & Formation

  • Oversee spiritual care services and chaplaincy programs, ensuring quality and consistency across facilities.
  • Develop and implement formation programs for leaders and caregivers that deepen understanding of the mission.
  • Facilitate reflection and discernment practices that support ethical decision-making and leadership growth.
  • Leads formation programs for leaders, physicians and boards, and caregiver formation activities.
  • Ensures positive and initiative-taking engagement with the Catholic dioceses of our service areas.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

  • Represent the organization in community partnerships, faith-based coalitions, and advocacy efforts.
  • Promote initiatives that address social determinants of health and support vulnerable populations.
  • Guide philanthropic and outreach efforts to reflect the ministry's mission and values.

Organizational Culture & Ethics

  • Champion a culture of respect, inclusion, and service throughout the organization.
  • Personifies and embodies our Christian/Catholic/Mercy Identity in an exemplary manner.
  • Lead efforts to assess and improve caregiver experience through mission-driven practices.
  • Provide ethical consultation and support for complex organizational decisions.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in theology, Divinity, Mission Leadership, or related field required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in mission integration or spiritual care within a healthcare or nonprofit setting.

  • Deep understanding of Catholic healthcare ministry and ethical frameworks.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence executive-level strategy.

  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and people skills.
